Egyptian Diamonds was launched by Edict, as a version of a Merkur slot machine that’s suited for online gaming. The diamond has long been a popular option for classic slot machines, being part of their designs for many decades now. Their inclusion in an Ancient Egypt themed game is not common, but it doesn’t stand out too much.
5x3 reels are delivered in Egyptian Diamonds, along with 30 active lines. You’re able to claim top prizes of up to 700x the stake in a single spin, and that’s coming from a slot machine with a 95.94% RTP. Whether it’s the Pharaoh Wild, Pyramid and Diamond scatters, or the Super Diamond feature with expanding reels, there are more extras inside than you’d expect of such a game.
Each of the 30 lines needs to be covered, so you can’t spend less than $0.30 per spin. Up to $9 can be used in a wager.
A regular spin can bring you a prize of up to 700x the stake, which happens just by forming enough winning combinations at the same time. Beyond that, you have the Super Diamond respins, where you can end up claiming the Grand Jackpot.
I like the odds that the slot gives the player, 95.94% being a Return that is close enough to the figures we generally expect to see.
At least some of the features available inside should feel familiar. I’m referring to the Pharaoh Wild in particular, a substitute that works in the same way as in thousands of other slots. It’s used as a replacement, but it is also limited to appearances only on the last four reels. There is no way for it to replace a feature symbol.
Pyramids are used as the slot’s scatters, and having them land 3 to 5 times, will get the player a prize worth 2x to 120x the stake. They also trigger 7 free spins, that have better odds of landing wilds, bonus symbols, and even more scatters (to retrigger the free spins with 3 more rounds).
Finally, we have a Diamond, the bonus symbol. These need to land quite often, at least 6 times in a single spin, to trigger the Super Diamond Feature.
It starts with 3 respins, where you get the triggering Diamonds as sticky symbols. Land additional Diamonds during respins, and the number of rounds resets back to 3. You can claim regular prizes and fixed jackpots from the Diamonds, once the respins are over.
There is something more to this respin feature, that we didn’t see in most slots of this type. It’s a system that allows the reels to expand, provided that you get Diamonds to land in all four corners of the game area. This can happen multiple times, and eventually, you can get to a game area with 7x4 reels.
They added the Diamond symbol in there, but this is still very much a slot machine dedicated to Ancient Egypt. You’re going to notice images of the Pharaoh, the Pyramid, and the Diamond, in the three major symbols. Five Royals were used in the low symbols, from 9 to A, skipping over the 10. The four premium symbols show us the usual images of the Ankh, Scarab, an Eye symbol, and the Eye of Ra.
Egyptian Diamonds looks fine for a modern slot machine, at least where features are concerned. You’re not going to get the same impression from its graphics, but that’s something we can get past since it’s a decent game otherwise.
