The latest Yggdrasil Gaming release has us following along a character called Aldo, a merchant and adventurer in search for treasures. Aldo’s Journey is a fun-looking slot, with cartoon-style graphics, but excellently designed. It’s different enough from other games, and it has unique features, so you’re likely to enjoy playing it, but you can decide that after reading more about it, from our review.
Aldo’s Journey will feature a fairly large game area, 5x5 reels being available and delivering a total of 65 paylines. Top wins of up to 4205x are apparently possible, though with regular combinations offering only 2x each, it’s going to take big multipliers to get you there. Announced as a medium volatility release, it offers a very good RTP, at 96.50%. Looking at the features of Aldo’s Journey, we discover several versions for the free spins, along with Journey Wilds and Compass scatters.
It might be an unusual system, the one with 65 lines on a big game area, but the amount spent on each round is not going to be that high. You can get away with a bet of just $0.10, it will be enough to get the reels going. High rollers are not forgotten though, and up to $100 can be spent on a single spin.
While I’ve seen top payouts of up to 4,205x mentioned for this slot machine, it’s not going to be an easy level to reach. Aldo is one of the symbols that you get to use, and it will be considered a substitute feature. It’s a regular-sized substitute, but one that travels around the reel, and then stops as the spin ends. He can end up contributing to multiple wins, depending on how many lines it is a part of.
The Compass symbol is your scatter, and three will be enough to trigger 7 free spins. There are five variants that you can get here, based on the location of the scatters. Each version of the free spins is based in another place. You will find versions for Italy (increasing multiplier, going up by 1x per spin, starting from 2x), Persia (sticky wild added each round), Mongolia (removes one symbol per spin, and once you get to two symbols adds a multiplier), China (2x multiplier and trails of wilds) and Journey (2x multiplier applied, after which one of the other four is triggered).

It looks like a story of an adventurer, and in fact that’s exactly what we get. It’s an explorer called Aldo, modeled after the famous Marco Polo. We see him traveling to Mongolia, going from Italy to Persia and China as well, in some of the game’s features.

Aldo’s Journey looks like plenty of fun, and it could be a good way to spend some time, but it’s not going to deliver big enough wins to motivate some of its players.
