Gem Splash: King’s Court is part of a bigger series from Playtech, which has received two other new slots so far, and I expect that more will come in the future. While previous installments in the series covered Marilyn Monroe and Irish leprechauns, here we’re getting a more medieval setting, with kings, heraldry and horses among those which show up.
King’s Court is played with 5x4 reels, and you will find 30 lines there. Individual wins will get you paid up to 180x the stake per spin, though you could get more from features and free spins. Even better, it’s capable of triggering progressive jackpots which will go into the six-figure range, and so a portion of its 96.37% RTP comes from them. Major features will include Golden Shields as scatters, Gem Drops, and free spins with colossal symbols.
The betting system is not there to act as a deterrent, unlike other slots, so you’re free to pick a value that you prefer from within a fairly large range. At its lowest, it’s going to require $0.10 per spin, while a high roller could spend up to $500.
I wasn’t that impressed with its regular combinations, as the best ones will pay 6x the stake, so up to 180x if all lines are covered. Of course, over the course of its free spins, or in bonus games, you could get more than that.
There is also a very impressive progressive jackpot that you will go after, called the Grand, which doesn’t have a limit and is going to be in the six-figures range. Two smaller jackpots, called Major and Minor, will have limits, paying by the time they reach $3,000 and $500, respectively.
While not a terribly risky game, since the volatility is Medium, you will find that the RTP includes the progressive jackpot as well. This means that the announced 96.37% is not giving you the full story, if you’re looking to find out what the slot can offer on its own. Without the progressive jackpots (3.99%), the RTP appears to be only 92.38%. This is typical for a slot with progressive jackpots though.
A Gem Drop will be a special symbol, which appears as an overlay, meaning that it covers symbols. Once it lands on the reels, it will start dropping downwards, one position at a time, until they leave the game area.
To win the prize mentioned on the Gem Drop icon, you need to get it to land on top a symbol with the Gem Splash logo. Do this, and you get a cash prize worth up to 100x the stake.
Only one other feature is available, the free spins. You get those when Golden Shields appear on 3 to 4 reels, scattered. In addition to 6 free games, you get a prize as well, worth up to 50x the stake. You can retrigger this feature in the same manner.
In this mode, the game will now have colossal versions for the Gem Drops, so they occupy anywhere between 1x1 and 4x4 positions when they show up. At the same time, Gem Splash icons are stacked. This makes it easier for these overlay symbols to find a Gem Splash symbol, and get you paid.
King’s Court does what it promises, it takes us to a medieval castle, which we see in the background, surrounded by fog or dust. On the reels though, the symbols are much easier to see. Of note here, would be the Gem Splash logo and the Golden Shield scatter. Regulars have the King as the top symbol, along with a Horse, Gold Crown, Gold Ring and four Royals (10 to A). A pretty good design overall, though not as modern as some of the other new Playtech slots.
Gem Splash: King’s Court is a good addition to the series, a third title which includes impressive progressive jackpots, and yet it is fairly accessible due to its medium volatility. I enjoyed the change in features, since we’re not getting regurgitated options from it, it actually has something unique to offer.
