Butterfly Staxx is coming to us via NetEnt and it is a beautiful nature themed game, one which obviously has butterflies and flowers showing on most positions on its reels. There are things to set it apart from similarly themed games, and I’m mostly mentioning the paper craft like quality of some of its elements.
The game has to give you 5 reels and a total of 40 fixed bet lines. It has free spins and Butterfly spins, scatter symbols, wilds and re-spins, so there is a decent list of options that can keep you entertained. The rewards appear to be low in value, the biggest one available reaching $1,200.
Butterfly Staxx Betting and Prizes
One thing to appreciate about the wagers that you’re allowed to use in Butterfly Staxx is that even though you get 40 active lines, the slot only asks you to place a wager on 20, which will be fixed. You can set the level of the bet as high as 10, which tells you how many coins are going to be used per line. You can also change the coin value, the range for it being $0.01 to $2. You can end up with a wager of up to $400, or you can test things out with one as small as $0.20.
The rewards of the slot seem to be on the small side, the best one paying 60x, so up to 600 coins, or $1,200. It’s got a good average RTP though, of 96.8%, so I’m not going to complain much about the jackpot.
The simplest feature that the game relies on is the one showing you a flower colored in pink and yellow, with the logo Wild in front of it. You can have these symbols show up in any position on the reels, both during the main rounds and during re-spins. They can act as substitutes for all other symbols, exceptions being the scatters.
The Butterfly symbols arrive stacked on the reels, and the ideal situation is when you have a full reel occupied by them. Should that happen, the game will trigger re-spins, during which the Butterflies start flying towards the leftmost position on the row that they appear on. If there are additional Butterflies appearing on the reels during the re-spins, they will increase the number of re-spins and they will fly towards the leftmost available position as well.
Scatter symbols are present in the game as well, featuring their own logo and the image of a purple flower behind it. Having three or more appear in any spot on the reels will trigger Butterfly Spins, between 5 and 7 rounds. These spins are different from the regular ones, since they only get Cocoon icons. If you’re lucky, some of those cocoons will be turned into butterfly symbols. The butterflies fly towards the left of the game area, being locked in that position until the feature is over.
Theme & Design
A nature theme is not unusual at all, but it’s far rarer to see it made out of craft paper, the way it appears to be done here. You have poker logos, flowers and plants which don’t seem natural, thanks to the angles that the paper has. There are some realistic looking symbols as well, like the butterfly, but for the most part it’s an artificial world that we’re being shown on these reels.
Butterfly Staxx is a good new release from NetEnt, a developer that has proven often in the past that they can create highly imaginative slot machines, with unusual features and themes.
