Microgaming’s collaboration with Spin Play Games continues, and the latest slot machine to come out of it will be part of a series that had a couple of titles released already. 9 Blazing Diamonds is only the latest slot to come from them, following titles like 9 Masks of Fire or 9 Pots of Gold. In this one, they’ve went after a more classic angle, so the theme will involve mostly fruits and other very well known symbols.
9 Blazing Diamonds gives you 5x3 reels, and you will discover that 25 active lines are present there. It’s a slot machine with great potential, which can pay as much as 10,000x the stake during its free spins, or 2,500x during paid rounds. RTP is set to 96.33%. Its special features will rely on free spins with up to 4x multipliers, the Blazing Wheel, scatters and wilds.
Select the wager, which can be as low as $0.20 or as high as $25, and then you can start playing. All lines are covered by the amount you select, no matter how small.
For the slot’s top payouts, you want to get the Blazing Diamonds feature to help you out, as up to 2,500x the stake is paid in exchange for a large number of scatters appearing at the same time. Do the same during free spins, and have 4x multipliers at the time, to get a 10,000x jackpot ($250,000 cash).
On the other hand, you’re not going to be as much of a fan of its regular wins. Those offer at most 8x the stake per line, or up to 200x per spin. It goes up to 800x during free spins, thanks to multipliers, but it’s still a fairly small reward.
The volatility is a medium, so it balances the risk and rewards, while the RTP is 96.33%.
You will get help from wild symbols, which can act as substitutes, but those will also be used to form wins of their own. They pay as much as the top symbol, so 8x the stake if they take over all 5 positions on a line.
Blazing Diamonds is the name of a feature which relies on Diamond scatters appearing on the middle reels, anywhere between 3 and 9 times. Depending on that exact number, the rewards vary, from 1x to 2,500x the stake.
You can also get access to Blazing Diamonds scatters through another feature, called Blazing Wheel. It needs its own scattered Wheel symbols, landing three times in a single spin, to get you either free spins with multipliers, or a number of Blazing Diamond scatters.
If we’re talking about the free spins, you can get a maximum of 30 rounds of those, with multipliers ranging from 2x to 4x.
It’s not a very interesting theme, unfortunately. It’s based on the classics, so you are going to get cherries, along with bells, the dollar sign, regular Bar and Bar 5 logos, three types of Lucky 7s, plus diamonds, wheels and wilds. I don’t mind the design quality, it’s good enough for the category it is in, especially given how the rest of the competition looks like.
9 Blazing Diamonds slot offers an adequate mix of special features, exciting multipliers and big top prizes, and all that with only medium volatility. All in all, it’s got a few advantages up its sleeve, but the classic side might ruin it for some.
Update Aug 2021: a second version of 9 Blazing Diamonds has been launched by SpinPlay Games and Microgaming. It’s the WowPot version of the slot, delivering wins in the 7-8 figures range, if you’re truly lucky. The progressive jackpot means that the RTP is now lower (93.30%), and the volatility is higher than before. Otherwise, the game looks the same as the first version.
