Fortune Coin is a Chinese-themed game, an IGT slot that is set to be released on January 23rd, 2020. It’s a slot machine with fairly standard graphics for a Chinese theme, but with fixed jackpots to pay and with a couple of decent features to take advantage of.
In Fortune Coin, we discover 5x3 reels which are using 243 ways to win, for combinations. The slot’s Jackpot Bonus, free spins and scattered Coins will be its major features. RTP being at 96.20%, this is going to be a fair slot machine long-term, as much as any other slot at least. Looking at the game’s highest potential, rewards of up to $100,000 are mentioned from the Maxi Jackpot, while Jackpot Boosts will take that up to $600,000.
You can wager with 60 coins, on each round of Fortune Coin. There are 243 ways to win activated, as a result. You vary the total bet only, from $0.60 to $600, with coin denominations apparently reaching up to $10.
Now, if you look only at regular combinations, perhaps you’re not going to be all that excited with Fortune Coin, as each way to win/line will pay at most 40 coins when covered by the best symbols that the game has to offer. That only amounts to a jackpot of 162x the stake at best.
However, the game relies mostly on its Jackpots for rewards, and those will go up to as much as 1,000x the stake. For this, you need both to trigger the Maxi Jackpot (166x the stake) and a Bonus Boost of 6x (highest possible). Overall, it only sounds impressive if you have a very high wager in place, but most people can’t afford to do that.
RTP-wise, it looks alright, since it’s set at 96.20%, but the low top payouts will keep a lot of players away.
Synced reels are a part of the game, and it will rely on 2 or more columns syncing up, for each spin that you go through.
You will notice that the game has four different fixed jackpots to give away. To trigger one of them, you will first need to reach the Jackpot Bonus. The four jackpots are called Maxi, Major, Minor and Mini. Super Boost icons can add multipliers of up to 6x (Boost at 1x, Super Boost at 2x and Mega Boost at 3x).
Another major feature that is part of Fortune Coin, the Free Spins are available via scatter symbols landing at the right time. Fortune Coin can also deliver cash rewards, of up to 1,000 coins.
If triggered via scatter symbols, the free spins give you 10, 15 or 20 rounds, for 3, 4 or 5 symbols, respectively. You can retrigger the feature, the same way.
Wilds are going to be present in the game also, and you may rely on them as replacement symbols, helpful if they land on the right reel (it’s easier for them to do their job in a slot with ways to win). These are not replacement symbols for scatters.
As for the theme in use here, the legends of China have clearly been a source of inspiration in its case. The symbols shown are gold-made versions of various creatures which are considered lucky or well known. There are dragons there, along with lions, fish and turtles. Other symbols simply give us various gold-made decorative objects. Finally, in the low-value icons, we find the Royals, with boring designs.
Overall, it doesn’t feel like a modern slot machine, not when it comes to graphics. IGT still has a lot to do in this area, to become competitive with the likes of NetEnt.
Fortune Coin has some very interesting features, and especially the synced reels are fun for a slot with ways to win, next to everything else available. I’m not a big fan of a slot offering 160x top payouts though, but if you prefer games with lower volatility, it could work.
