IGT is from the United States, with its HQ being in the country’s gambling capital, in Las Vegas. It also has another HQ in San Francisco and it has offices in other countries around the world, including in China, Gibraltar and UK. This company is listed on NYSE, using the IGT symbol.
The company runs its software and RNG through tests at independent auditors, they encrypt the data and they seem to be quite responsible overall. They can be found in some of the most popular online casinos, as well as in many offline ones.
IGT started out as a developer of slot machine cabinets for the brick and mortar casino, and it was founded in 1975. Its founder’s name was William S. Redd. The name of the company stands for International Game Technology. The company went public in 1981.
In 1984, it acquired its first company, called Electronic Data Technologies. They innovated right from the start and they were one of the first to use computers to track player data. They continued to innovate in the years to come and they launched a gaming concept that was called S-Slot, among with others. They also launched the Megabucks Slots, with jackpots that started out at $1 million, as well as the Player’s Edge machines for video poker.
They released their first slot machines with special themes in 1989, the titles released then being “Red, White & Blue” and “Double Diamonds”. They got listed on NYSE in 1991, creating IGT Europe so that its clients from continental Europe could get support. They’ve also created their first pachisuro machine for Japan.
With the United States legalizing riverboat gaming, IGT started producing more and more slot machines, with 69,000 units made in 1993 and another 95,000 the next year. They’ve started expanding to other countries, creating offices in Argentina and South Africa. They then acquired Barcrest Gaming in UK, as well as Sodak Gaming. The slot machine with the number 1,000,000 was made in 2000. They entered multiple markets in the coming years, including Mexico, Russia, Macau and Canada. In 2006, they put out a new series, called MP, which proved to be very popular. The machine with the number 2,000,000 was done in 2010, and they got an award for best developer of slot machines the same year. In 2012 they bought Double Down, and they got into the social gaming niche.
IGT Casino Games
Since we’re looking mostly at the online content here, I’m going to note first of all that there are over 100 slot machines offered by IGT. These are all web-based games, which don’t require a download or installation. They’re going to be easy to integrate into casinos that have multiple developers and which rely on instant play games.
IGT isn’t a one trick pony, so the list of games that it has in its collection will include pretty much all casino titles that you’d expect to find, not just slots. You will have 8 games of Blackjack, 8 types of Roulette, Baccarat, Craps, 17 versions of Video Poker and 3 of Keno.
In terms of progressive jackpots, there are three slot machines that will offer them. They are all offering a Megajackpots prize. The games where you will find these are MegaJackpots Monopoly, MegaJackpots Cluedo and MegaJackpots Cleopatra.
IGT mixes its regular themes with branded ones, and I loved seeing slot machines like The Lord of the Rings, Transformers or The Hangover, inspired by some of the most popular movies of the last decade. They have quite a few other games with similar themes in them and the branded slots appear to be a major strategy for IGT. The regular themed slots include Valhalla, Sakura Tree and Sevens Baby.
This is one side of IGT where I’m often not 100% satisfied with the outcome. The designs in the slots they put out are good generally, but they’re far from being as impressive as those that you can expect when you play a NetEnt or Betsoft slots, to mention just two of the developers that do a particularly good job in this area. Obviously, some slot machines are going to look better than others, either because they got more attention or because they’re newer. Also, all IGT games are perfectly playable, they’re not going to be ugly, just usually not as gorgeous as some of their competitors.
The area where I’m most impressed with IGT is in the features that they include in slots that they create. A lot of their games will actually have the player pick some sort of avatar and then they will advance in level and in the story. This gives the player an incentive to stick with a single game, since they will get more benefits out of it the more they advance in it. You usually have the wilds, scatters and free spins as well in there, but multipliers and bonus games are also part of the deal.
For the payouts of IGT’s slots, the biggest ones seem to come from the progressive jackpots, though those are only available in a couple of games of theirs. Most of the jackpots will be fixed ones, and quite a few will have multiples of up to 10,000x. There are smaller ones as well though, depending on what else is offered inside, some even as low as 1,000x.
