GONG Gaming might be a newcomer in this space, but they’re already innovating and launching their own mechanics. Maya U MAX™ is the first slot machine to feature this new system, where reel expansion is done in a new way. It remains to be seen if it will end up being a popular mechanic, but for now, we get to enjoy a Mayan-themed slot machine that’s relying on it.
Maya U MAX™ slot has 5 reels, and an expansion system that allows it to go from an initial 243 ways to win to as many as 248,832 during free spins (15,552 during paid spins). Major features rely on the U MAX system, along with free spins, wilds, and Toppers. You’re going after a 12,000x jackpot, in a slot with 95.69% RTP.
Though it gets a lot of lines, wagers in Maya will not require a similar number of coins. $0.20 is the minimum required, while $12 is the maximum allowed.
You can get paid quite well, up to $240,000 in a single spin, which should mean a return of up to 12,000x the stake, from a slot machine that has medium-high volatility (4/5 rating). RTP is somewhat low, unfortunately, 95.69% being the level which we’ve seen mentioned.
5 reels are available initially, along with 243 ways to win, but there are some interesting new ways to expand the game area. The top of the middle reels will have Toppers, filled with symbols, which can be brought to the game area with the help of Magnets landing on the reels. These are marked with the U Max logo. The symbols which are attracted will come down to the positions occupied by magnets, and they split into 4 smaller symbols there. Since you get 4 new symbols instead of a single one, the number of ways to win increases.
Toppers, the areas filled with extra symbols, will be shown at the top of reels 2-4 during paid spins, and above all 5 reels during free spins. While only the middle reels can expand in the base game, that still means up to 15,552 ways to win there. For the free spins, you get up to 248,832 ways, though you would need U Max symbols landing in all spots first.
To get to the 5 free spins offered here, you need 5 scatters on as many reels. 1 extra spin is offered for each additional scatters landing along the way.
There is a Wild logo as well, and you can probably guess what it will do for the player. It’s a substitute, and it can be very useful in a slot where ways to win are used.
It’s relatively simple, a slot game that has a Mayan theme, with plenty of gemstones (different colors and shapes) and Royals that borrow from the civilization’s style. Add the U Max symbols as well, and that’s about it for the game’s icons.
Overall, I like the new U MAX system, which we’re seeing for the first time in Maya. The game can pay well enough, and has fun features, but the low RTP is going to make it a tough sell.
