Elk Studios seems to have a long-term series for their players, and Black River Gold is the fourth title that’s released in it. The same series previously had titles like Ecuador Gold or Tahiti Gold, and just as before, we’re traveling to a different part of the world, and getting into an adventure. What changes is mostly the location and some of the features. In this case, we’re going to North America, in a game which has a certain Wild West vibe to it.
Black River Gold was designed with 6x4 reels & 4096 ways to win, but that’s just the starting point. The game area expands and can have up to 262,144 ways to win, which is why it’s a bit of a surprise that top wins will only go up to 5,000x the stake. Even so, the RTP is solid, a 96.10% that’s expected, and the volatility is high (9 out of 10 rating). Looking at the better features which have been announced in this case, we find the giant symbols, a bonus game, the Wild Compass and a Revolver wheel.
As always, Elk Studios keeps the same betting system as in past releases. You have the same 100 coins in your bets, and the range is between $0.20 and $100 for the total amount used, which means that the denomination can reach $1.
Expect a game with a 5,000x jackpot ($500,000), which would be considered excellent in the past, but these days we’ve been spoiled by Megaways titles. Nonetheless, since the RTP is at 96.10%, we at least know that this high volatility game treats us fairly. The experience is going to be a risky one, for a lot of players, but the rewards are higher than average.
One of the main mechanics that should be mentioned, the Avalanche will trigger and will remove symbols which are part of winning combinations. As new symbols come in, the game area expands by getting an additional row. These new waves of symbols appear with more ways to win then, eventually getting up to 8 rows high and with 262,144 ways.
A Red Rose Wild will be there to help you out along the way, as a substitute. Its abilities allow it to participate only in the formation of new combinations.
You can get Big Symbols, sized between 2x2 and 4x4, when you’re triggering symbol drops via the Avalanche feature.
The Wild Compass is a symbol which can transform symbols into wilds, provided that they’re matching and on opposite sides of it (left and right, up and down, in a diagonal).
The free spins are triggered via the Bonus symbol, if it lands 3+ times as a scatter. 10 to 25 rounds are available. As the game area expands, it doesn’t reset between rounds.
The Revolver is the combination between a big symbol and smaller icons appearing underneath it. It’s a spinning revolver cylinder, which has symbols instead of bullets. When filled, it will transform into a big wild.
Black River Gold appears to have a prairie themed design, taking us to the times of the Wild West, so basically in 19th century North America. We find the mountains and the prairie in the background, while the reels get the usual symbols, things like a Compass, Bonus logo, Red Rose Wilds, Sheriff, Diamond, Gold Nugget, Gemstone, Revolver, Whiskey, Sheriff Star, Pendant and four Royals.
Black River Gold does look like an interesting addition to the Gold series, using some of the features available in other slots as well, but bringing its own improvements to the franchise.
