Frostlands is the third slot machine that we’re getting in the Crystal Quest slot series, following after games like Deep Jungle and Arcane Tower. They’re all from Thunderkick, a smaller developer if we go by the number of games they have in their collection, but which will always be a lot of fun. Though we’ve gone to the jungle in the past, in Crystal Quest: Frostlands we’re getting a much colder region to explore, as evidenced by its title and the snow which is visible everywhere in its design.
Crystal Quest: Frostlands has 6x4 reels, a big enough area to allow for 4096 ways to win. It’s a big game area, in a highly volatile slot, but with excellent rewards of up to 15,000x the stake, as well as a 96.16% RTP. All in all, it’s not looking bad at all, particularly once you look at special features, such as Avalanches, increasing multipliers, mega symbols and free spins with wild explosions.
Since you’re playing in a slot with ways to win, you naturally use a fixed wager, selecting the exact amount which makes sense for you and your budget. $0.10 is the lowest available bet, while $100 is the highest.
Thousands of ways to win, or potential combinations, are at your disposal, and each one can pay up to 5x the stake via the top symbol. Add the progressive multiplier as well, and you can see why they had to place a hard cap on how much you can take home. They’ve gone with a 15,000x the stake limit, which is still very good.

A common, but a very appreciated mechanic, is the Avalanche. Whenever you get a combo formed via the ways to win system, the Avalanche will trigger and remove those symbols. New ones come in the empty positions and may help form new combinations. Avalanches continue for as long as that’s the case. At the same time, each new avalanche boosts the multiplier by 1x, so the prizes keep getting better, the longer it goes. It will go back to 1x, once the round is over.
While in other slots you can get bigger symbols only during certain features, in Crystal Quest: Frostlands the so-called Massive Symbols may show up at any time, even during paid spins. They can give you 4 or 9 symbols (2x2 or 3x3 positions) of the same type, in a single spin. These can be regular symbols only.
You will encounter wilds as well, and these will be symbols that help form new combinations, by acting as substitutes for any of the regular symbols.
As for the scatters you encounter in Frostlands, the Treasure Chest symbols will get the role, and 3 to 5 of these will trigger 12 to 18 free spins. Losing spins will result in Wild Explosions, which will remove regular symbols on the same column and row, allowing others to come in and hopefully get you paid. There is also the fact that you don’t ever reset the increasing multiplier, it will only go up as you progress through free spins and avalanches.
It’s a pretty well-designed game, with plenty of ice and monsters in its design, but with a lot of different crystals as well. Not very interesting, but well made. As symbols, you will discover gemstones, crystals, monsters, and treasure chests.
Crystal Quest: Frostlands looks great, and it should be a great addition to the series. Fans of the other slots will like what they’re getting from Frostlands as well.
