Hot to Burn: Hold and Spin belongs to a category of real money slots that’s become quite large over the last months, as every single developer out there appears to be launching new titles which rely on its main feature. The Hold and Spin feature, as they called it, is found under other names in its competitors, but the mechanics appear to be the same in each case. While this Pragmatic Play release does have above average payouts to deliver, I doubt players will be as impressed with its dated design and classic fruit theme.

You’re spinning 5 reels, on which you will find 20 active lines. Wins of 20,000x the stake are mentioned by the developer as possible, which is truly impressive for any slot machine. Highly volatile, the game manages to keep its Return to Player at a very good level, of 96.70%. As for the main features that you will discover inside, the list has a Wild, a couple of scatters, plus the impressive Hold and Spin bonus.

Betting and Prizes

A typical betting range, for any Pragmatic Play game, will start from $0.20 and will go as high as $100 per spin.  This corresponds to the use of up to 10 coins of $0.50, on each of those 20 fixed lines.

As for the slot’s top payouts, there are two ways to get them. One is through regular spins, where you form top paying combinations on all active lines. As each one pays 250x the stake, it could mean 5,000x the stake per spin. The other way to get that amount, is through spins of a Big Money Wheel, each one paying up to 5,000x the stake. At most, you can get paid 20,000x the stake for a single round of Hot to Burn.

With that kind of potential, the game can only be highly volatile, so the risk is definitely there. RTP wise, we’re seeing a 96.70% figure that’s quite rare in new slots, most of them staying under 96.50%.

Hot to Burn: Hold and Spin Slot Features

The orange Wild logo, backed with a wall of fire, will be a top paying symbol, alongside the Lucky 7. The Wild will also be a replacement though, used by the player only in combination with one of the regular symbols, if this can get you a new combo.

Second, you will sometimes find Star scatters on the reels, which you get to use only as a way to trigger prizes. Having 3, 4 or 5 Stars, gets you a prize worth 1x to 100x the stake.

The major feature in Hot to Burn will be the one they call Hold and Spin. To get this one, you need Money symbols landing on the reels. These are the ones with images of Diamonds or Suns, which have cash prizes mentioned on them. If there are at least 5 of these symbols visible, the feature starts.

The triggering Money symbols will stay around, and you will attempt to get more during the respins that come next. You get 4 respins initially, with the number going back to the original if you land more Money symbols. All Money symbols become sticky. Once the feature ends, you get the prizes from all Money symbols, and if you filled all 15 symbol positions, then you also get a spin of the Wheel.

Big Money Wheel has prizes ranging from 10x to 5,000x the stake, to pay each round, but there are blank positions as well. For as long as you get cash prizes, the spins continue. The first blank result that you get, will end the feature.

Theme & Design

As big as the potential of the slot may be, I think you will be very disappointed in the classic fruit theme and the low quality of the design. It actually looks like a slot that’s a decade or two old, there is nothing inspiring or fun about it.

As major symbols, I’d mention the Star scatter, the Wild logo, the Money symbols, or the top-paying Lucky 7. Other regular symbols have the Bar logo, Watermelon, Strawberry, Plum, Orange, Cherries and a Black X.

Conclusion

Hot to Burn: Hold and Spin slot does a couple of things right, adding above average RTP and huge potential wins to a classic genre that’s in bad need of a shake-up. However, that being said, they kept the dated graphics that are common for slots in this category.
