Pragmatic Play is the developer that is expected to release Floating Dragon New Year Festival Ultra Megaways Hold & Spin, a slot machine where they went a bit overboard on the title length. We’ll leave the extra features aside for this review, so let’s dive in and see what Floating Dragon: New Year Festival has to offer.
Floating Dragon: New Year Festival is a slot machine that uses an Ultra Megaways engine, so you’re getting 147,456 ways to win from the same 6-reel setup that others are using. Like a good Megaways slot, it will pay above average, even up to 20,000x the stake. You can get an excellent RTP of 96.70% if you locate that version, but the very high volatility can’t be avoided either way. It also gets its share of features, such as mystery symbols, wilds, free spins, or the Hold & Spin.
You can go for the usual bet of $0.20 to $240, or you can activate the Ante Bet and spend 50% more (up to $360).
I appreciate the excellent top jackpot offered in Floating Dragon: New Year Festival. Up to 20,000x the stake will be paid, which is a good cap for a Megaways slot. It’s got an RTP range, going up to 96.70%, and the volatility will be very high.
The setup is different from other Megaways slots. You get up to 6 symbols for each of the regular reels, but there are also three extra horizontal reels on top of columns 2-5 (the top one gets wilds or blank positions). This allows the slot to have up to 147,456 ways active, and there are also Tumbles to trigger whenever wins come your way.
The wild symbols can be of help if they land, but only alongside regular symbols.
Mystery symbols can also show up, and all of them transform into a single type of symbol.
The main feature will bring you up to 25 free spins. The Lady symbol, which is available only here, can be used to collect the Fish Money symbols that land even during paid spins. Each Fish symbol pays as much as 5,000x the stake, though typically, it’s a much lower value. You can collect the Lady symbols, and for every four, there is a boost to the multiplier applied to the Fish prizes, along with 10 extra spins.
Built around the festivities of the Chinese New Year, it appears to celebrate the Year of the Dragon, which comes in the Zodiac for 2024. As its symbols, it relies on images of the Royals, but also paper lanterns, bonsai, gold coins, dragons, the girl, envelopes, or fish.
Floating Dragon New Year Festival doesn’t have features that you can’t get elsewhere, but the unusual set of 6 reels does make a difference in how the slot is played. I’d recommend it for that alone, even if it didn’t have a 20,000x jackpot.
