Candy Stars will soon join the ever-growing collection of slots designed by Pragmatic Play. It doesn’t do that much to make a great first impression, though you might appreciate the modern candy-themed graphics that are used.
You’re playing via 5 reels (3-4-4-4-3 symbols) in the Candy Stars demo game, which brings 576 ways to win. A payout of 5,000x the stake sounds good, though as the volatility is high, I would’ve appreciated an even better jackpot. RTP-wise, it’s going as high as 96.47%.
You’re able to spend just $0.20, and it will be enough to trigger the next spin in Candy Stars. You can also increase the bet to as much as $100 for each round.
Now, as for the payouts that could result from this, it looks like $500,000 is the best possible outcome, for someone using the max bet. That would be a 5,000x top jackpot, in a game with a 5/5 rating when it comes to volatility.
The usual three RTP settings are available, with the preferred one at 96.47%. The other two are 95.02% and 94.31%.
In a similar fashion to what we see in a lot of Megaways slots, the horizontal reel placed at the top of reels 2-4 is going to spin horizontally, independent from the main area. It’s still included in the game area and contributes to the ways to win.
Following a combo formation, the Tumble mechanic comes next, and it’s used to get rid of winning symbols. The empty positions are taken over by new symbols.
That top row of symbols is the only area where you can get the Star Wilds to appear. From the top of reels 2-4, these symbols are going to be used as substitutes for most symbols, though the Diamond is an exception. Wilds stay in their position until you stop getting new tumbles, and it boosts the multiplier by 1x after each one (max is 128x).
Finally, we’re also getting free spins, via three scatters which need to land on reels 1, 3, and 5. You’re guaranteed a wild on the top row, and the multiplier doubles up after each tumble, so getting to 128x is much easier.
Candy-themed slots are far from uncommon, and Candy Stars doesn’t do much to make itself stand out. It’s delivering a range of symbols that go from the usual Royals (four of them, J to A), to diamonds, and then four types of candy or stars.
Candy Stars manages slot to deliver excellent graphics, and has a multiplier wild that turns it into something exciting, but I would’ve loved a much bigger payout to go with that feature.
