The lion, as do many other creatures from the Chinese pantheon, will be featured highly in quite a few slot machines, and this is one that comes from Pragmatic Play. 5 Lions will have the lion obviously in the main role, but every other symbol you get will be inspired by another creature, so the theme isn’t as religiously followed as you might think.
5 Lions has 5 reels, that much was already to be expected. The game will offer 243 ways to win, meaning that you will be able to form combinations on its reels by having matching symbols on the right reels, nothing more. Wins of $5,000 are going to be offered through those ways to win, along with a wild symbol with up to 40x multipliers, scatters and free spins.
Betting and Prizes
A game like 5 Lions, coming from Pragmatic Play, has a certain way of doing things when bets are selected. You have 50 lines for starters, for betting, and you select 1 to 10 coins to use for each one, while the denomination you get to change between $0.01 and $0.50. You end up with maximum line bets of $5 and total bets that reach $250.
Wagers in this game can vary wildly, and to blame should be the game’s wilds and their multipliers that reach 40x. Without them getting involved, regular wins can pay up to $5,000 for the best combinations. The announced RTP for 5 Lions is 96.5%, which is very good.
5 Lions Slot Features
With the Lion taking the main role, the slot will have a major focus on this symbol and the wild feature that it brings you. It’s been limited a bit in usefulness, as it will appear only on one of the middle three reels. However, it has been enhanced in other ways, such as through its random multiplier that it will apply to wins it assists you with. These multipliers range from 1x to 40x, so there is huge potential in these wild symbols.
A second symbol which is used by 5 Lions is also popular for Chinese themed slots, sporting the Yin Yang logo. Have these appear scattered on the five reels, but also on adjacent columns and starting from the left, to trigger free spins. At this point, you can’t even call them scatters anymore, as they behave just like regular symbols. They just trigger features and pay up to 20x total bet.
The free spins are improved in at least one way, as they’re adding 3 additional symbols to the middle three reels. The ways to win number jumps to 576, so there are a lot more chances to get paid.
You have a total of six variants for the number of free spins, and you get to pick which one you prefer. The more free spins you get, the smaller the potential random multiplier applied by the wild symbol. At the extremes, you have 25 free spins with wild multipliers of 2x to 5x, or 6 spins with wilds multiplying wins by 15x to 40x.
Theme & Design
It’s a common theme for a slot machine, with inspiration borrowed from the Chinese culture and the beasts that they often mention. The lion might be in the main role, but he’s accompanied by Vermillion birds, dragons, toads, turtles and gold fish. Just as many playing cards are used, six of them showing up in low-paying positions.
5 Lions is unique and interesting mostly because of the features it proposes, but I didn’t find the theme or graphics overly exciting to go through.
