There is an entire Blitz series already, with slot machines dealing with Rhinos and Buffalo, but it can’t hurt to get one more if it brings something new. Sharks Blitz tries just that, and this new Playtech release offers a fun design and a less common theme than its predecessors.
Sharks Blitz is a slot machine that has 5 reels (3-5-5-5-3 symbols), along with 5,625 ways to win. Several interesting features are implemented, including multiplier wilds, free spins, scatters, and more. What most will love though, is the combination of a top jackpot of 37,500x the stake, along with the progressive jackpots from the Blitz network. The 95.10% RTP is not a good one, but for a progressive jackpot slot, it’s not unheard of to see a low value.
While the minimum bet is very low, and $0.25 is enough to activate those 5,625 ways to win, Sharks Blitz lets the player spend up to $200 each round, so it’s a good fit for high rollers as well.
With its medium volatility, Sharks Blitz strikes a good balance between risk and reward, at least in terms of potential. 37,500x the stake is the payout that one can claim if they’re really lucky, and that’s before we get to the progressive jackpots.
The four progressive jackpots are coming from the Blitz network, and the best one is the Blitz Jackpot (worth $100,000+). The other three options are the Major, Minor, and Mini Jackpots.
The part that I’m not excited about, is the Return to Player, or RTP. It’s at 95.10% here, which is considerably lower than the 96% that most people are looking for. It’s typical for a progressive jackpot slot though, they rarely do as well as regular ones there.
The last five reels will be the ones that can get the Diamond Wilds to land on them. You get to use them as substitutes, and of course, they are only useful when combined with a regular symbol. The fact that ways to win are used, helps them do their job.
Crunch mode is a random event, which will give you 2 scatters somewhere on the reels. This just makes it more likely that the free spins will trigger that round.
A Free Games Recharge logo is present on the scatter symbol. Landing anywhere between 3 and 6 of these, somewhere on the reels, triggers the free spins. Between 8 and 15 free spins are delivered in exchange. Get them going, and they can be retriggered via 3+ scatters once you’re inside.
When you get those 2+ scatters required for a retrigger, you will Recharge the game, boosting the multiplier and taking the number of rounds to the same amount as you initially won (it resets, it doesn’t add the new ones to the total). Depending on the exact number of scatters, the multiplier boost is between 1x and 5x.
The progressive jackpots are triggered through a random bonus game, which will show 20 symbols to choose from. You make selections until you get 3 of the same type, and then you claim that particular jackpot.
It’s a game with a unique design, interesting enough, but not unusual. It simply adds more symbols to the middle reels, giving the number of ways to win a boost. You’re looking at a theme related to the ocean otherwise, with the shark as the main character. There isn’t much to look at in the background, it’s just the watercolored in a dark purple.
On the reels though, you find a selection of Royals at first, six of them and going 9 to A, followed by a variety of sea creatures. Those include manta rays, jellyfish, turtles, fish, and sharks. A couple of feature symbols also exist, using images of the Diamond or the Free Games logo.
Overall, Sharks Blitz is not a bad slot machine, but only if you’re going after that progressive jackpot. The low RTP makes sure that there will be plenty of other games that do better on the regular side, even though the features are interesting here.
