Book of Gold Multichance is the most recent slot that Playson has designed for this series, where each game appears to be influenced by a very popular game, called Book of Ra. That influence is clear here, as it is in dozens of other slots, coming from all sorts of developers. Players do seem to love this mechanic though, so it’s not a surprise that new games keep coming out with variations on it. It’s still an Ancient Egypt themed game as well, that hasn’t changed.

Book of Gold Multichance slot will play with 5x3 reels & 10 lines, pretty much the standard setup for the Book-style slots. It will deliver the same prizes as most of the others, 5,000x the stake in a single very lucky spin, but it will fail RTP wise, a figure which is calculated to be only 95.40%. Among its major features, there are mixed wild/scatter books, free spins with expanding symbols, as well as the option to buy access to the main feature.

Betting and Prizes

The Bet menu, which is shown at the bottom, starts from a minimum of $0.10 and can go up from there, up to $100. You select the wager for all 10 lines, and the line bet appears to change between $0.01 and $10 as a result.

There is also the option to Buy Bonus, which will cost you 100x the regular stake. In exchange, you get 12 free spins directly.

The payouts are typical for a slot machine with Book-style mechanics, offering up to 500x the stake per line, and as much as 5,000x the stake in a single spin (much more likely to happen during the free spins).

As always, the volatility will be High for such a game. Where I’m disappointed in Book of Gold Multichance, is when it comes to the RTP it employs. At 95.40%, the RTP is considerably lower than the 96% or more that its competitors tend to have.

Book of Gold Multichance Slot Features

One of the things that all these Book-style slots seem to have in common, is the use of the same symbol to act as both substitute and scatter. It’s the Book of Gold that gets the role. Land it next to regular symbols on active lines, and they can form a regular combo together, to get you paid.

However, if you have at least 3 such Books visible on the reels, there will be 12 free spins triggered, along with a prize of up to 200x the stake.

It’s during the free spins that the potential of the game is highest, because the game will pick a regular symbol at random, to give it special abilities. Now, whenever that symbol appears on the reels, it expands and covers them completely. At that point, they pay while appearing as scatters, so you don’t need them on the same lines or on consecutive reels.

One thing that’s slightly different about Book of Gold Multichance, is that by retriggering the free spins you can get additional special symbols. Do this enough times, and up to 9 symbols could gain the ability to expand. It’s not the only Book-style slot to do this, but the vast majority will not.

Theme & Design

The theme of choice, for most of the games in this category, is related to Ancient Egypt and its deities. It’s once again the major inspiration here, so we’re looking at symbols with the Book of Gold, but also with a Pharaoh, Horus, Eye of Ra and the Ankh. The other half of the paytable list is comprised of the Royals from 10 to A, a lazy choice, but one that most developers seem to be making.

Book of Gold Multichance slot could’ve been a decent option for the players that are typically fans of this big category, but the use of a below average RTP is something that I’d say it ruins it. There is no point in playing a game that offers the same features and prizes like the others, only with lower odds of walking away with a profit. There are too many alternatives that do better.
