Hollywood Reels is one of the better-paying slots that I’ve seen Parlay Games release, a game that aims to follow a story that’s inspired by Hollywood and by the actors trying to hit it big there. From young women to slick-looking agents, and the filming equipment that’s typical for the industry, the imagery is the right one, even as the graphics tend to look a bit on the dated side.
They chose a 5-reel game area, along with a total of 20 active lines. It’s a combination that’s going to be found in plenty of slots, there is nothing special about it, and yet top rewards of up to 5,000x the stake appear possible inside. It’s going to be done via regular symbols, but some help may come from expanding wilds, scatters, multipliers, and a Pick- style bonus game.
20 to 100 coins are going to be used in the wagers you place here, which means that 1 to 5 coins may be selected for use on each of the 20 lines. Another option available will be based on the coin denomination, which can reach a maximum of $1. The betting range which is available in this game starts from just $0.20 and can end up at a maximum of $100 per spin.
Payouts can be very good, as even the regular combinations offer up to 5,000x the stake or $25,000 per line/$500,000 total. Multipliers of up to 5x may trigger and help out as well, though you need several winning rounds in a row, for that to happen. I’m not quite sure what’s the cap for the slot’s wins, but we do know that 5,000x is possible even before those multipliers start boosting wins.
A progressive jackpot is also randomly triggered here, so you can walk away a happy man (or woman).
Especially interesting in this game, would be the use of multipliers for consecutive winning rounds. You get 1x for the first winning spin, but then you get to 2x, 3x, 4x, and 5x, as you keep getting paid. Losing spins reset the multiplier back to 1x.
The Hollywood Star will be quite interesting to use here, as it is an expanding wild, which will cover all positions on the reel and will then contribute to all winning combinations going through those positions. It’s a substitute for a regular symbol, but not for a scatter.
The other big feature here is going to be the Bonus Oscar statue, which is a bonus game trigger. Landing it scattered 3 to 5 times will get you access to the slot’s bonus game. It’s called the Pick Bonus, where you make selections and can win up to 250x the stake.
The Hollywood and movie connection are quite obvious, you see it in the symbols which are used. There are Hollywood Stars, Oscar statues, a director’s chair, a young actress, cameras, clappers, film reels, hand-prints, lights, palm trees, the Hollywood sign, and an agent. The design quality is quite bad though, it looks like a slot that’s at least a decade old. On the other hand, it’s to be appreciated that the game has only themed symbols on the reels.
Hollywood Reels looks like an older free casino game, but it can compete with the best of them in terms of features and top payouts. It’s what a lot of players are looking for, so I appreciate the game for that.
