Depending on when you’re reading this, you might be tired of the tropical-style heat already, or you might be longing for it. Either way, Merkur’s Tri Piki is a slot machine which takes us to a gorgeous tropical beach, where we can enjoy delicious cocktails, watch the ocean and the Hula girls as they’re dancing. All in all, a great idea, but let’s see how it was implemented.
They turned this one into a slot machine with 5 reels & 20 paylines, just what you’d expect from such a game. Thanks to its 96.70% RTP, it should be an appealing pick for many, even if the 1,000x jackpot is not the highest one around (still worth up to $20,000 though). Add its features, where wild/scatters are found in the same Dancing Woman symbols, as well as the free spins with special symbols, and you get a couple of good reasons to look into it.
Since the 10 lines are sticky, you get to decide only on the amount which will go to each one. The range of the line bet is between $0.01 and $2, and this will lead to bets of $0.10 to $20 for each round.
If you manage to get the Dolphin symbol to form combinations on all lines, and with 5 symbols of that type on all of them, then the 1,000x jackpot can be yours. It’s a decent return for a slot machine, and I like that the slot has a high RTP to go with it (96.70% calculated return).
The main feature symbol that Tri Piki will offer, the wild symbol is also going to serve as a scatter in this particular case. It’s the image of the Dancing Woman that gets the role, and you will be able to find the symbol on the reels, and use it in either capacity. Only the middle three reels can get these symbols.
The easiest it will be to get it as a wild, since even a single symbol will suffice. You can have wilds contributing to new winning combinations, as long as the required number of symbols (both regular and wild) show up left to right on the same line.
Even better, you can have three appearances of this symbol on the reels, to get 10 free spins. At that point, you use the symbol as a scatter. The free spins which follow will have three special symbols, which you can pick as the feature begins, by choosing shells. You only use those three regular symbols, along with the wild, for the entire duration of the free spins. This could mean big wins for you, as there are fewer symbols to form combinations with, and the odds of that happening increase considerably.
I like the tropical beach theme, and the connection to Hawaii which can be guessed. The dancing woman is more of a tease, since you see only her outline against the image of the Sun, while the rest of the symbols revolve around both themed (dolphins, boats, fruits, cocktails and bungalows) and non-themed (the five Royals from the 10 to the A) images.
Design quality is in the usual range that Merkur got us used to. Not a modern design, but not the worst-looking game around either. I’d call it average looking at best.
Tri Piki is a tropical slot, which could be fun for people because of that alone, since there are times during the year when you’re really looking forward to the next vacation. They added the right mix of features as well though, and I especially appreciated the presence of only 3 regular symbols during its free spins, it makes that part of the game much more valuable.
