Dreaming Island is just what you’d expect, a slot machine with a tropical theme, the kind of place where you’d want to go to relax, or even to retire after many years of work. It’s Merkur’s video slot, and a fun one at that, as you can find out from our review below.
They went with a setup that has 720 ways to win to deliver on 5 reels (3-4-5-4-3 symbols), along with major features such as the Wild Jokers or the different scatters that might lend a hand along the way, some of them triggering free spins, others just prizes. Each of those many ways to win can deliver wins of up to 40x the stake, so the potential seems to be there for top payouts of up to $576,000. You get a slot with a 96% RTP as well, so even though its graphics don’t make it look that modern, it’s going to handle just like any other new release.
You have bets that you select, so even though there are 720 ways to win there, you only have to pick the total amount wagered on the round. The range of the bets which you can choose from is between $0.10 and $20. The paytable updates automatically, reflecting the cash value of the prizes which can be paid.
The game’s best win will come from the Temple symbol, paying up to 40x the stake, or $800. It’s not a huge amount by itself, but once you take into account all 720 ways to win, the game seems capable of paying up to $576,000 for a single spin. It’s possible that some limitations are there for the game’s jackpot, but there is no mention on the paytable or rules page.
Finally, it’s good to know that the slot’s RTP is set to 96%, a value that is quite common for such games.
Wild Joker symbols are going to act as the game’s substitutes, which means that they can help form new combinations by appearing on a reel where a regular symbol is needed to complete a win. They provide those missing symbols for some wins, while for others they add to existing symbols and make the prizes even better. You will not get wilds on all reels, only on the middle ones (2, 3, 4).
One of the two scatter symbols available, the Silver Goblin will have the ability to trigger prizes for you, whenever it appears multiple times in random spots on the reels.
Next, we have the Tropical Bird scatter, which needs to get five birds flying on the reels, so that 8 free spins can trigger. Up to 96 free spins can be won in total, by retriggering the feature when 1 or more birds appear inside.
It’s a tropical island inspired design, that much is clear immediately, but the design quality doesn’t quite look like it’s from 2019. It looks like a slot machine that’s at least a decade older, with dated graphics which don’t make it appealing at all. Still, as far as symbols go, the mix is a normal one. You get Royals for starters, but then you move on to men and women, temples, scarabs and pendants, coins and logos. A Tropical Bird is the game’s scatter.
Dreaming Island is OK for a slot machine from 10 years ago, but these days we have much better alternatives. It looks like it has good potential, but it’s not very interesting when it comes to graphics or features.
