Merkur has a couple of new online slots that they’re preparing to launch right now, and one of them is taking us to the future, while the other goes to the past. The futuristic one is called Cyborg Towers, and I fully expect something exciting here, given the title and the Blade Runner-like image that comes to mind. With an above average RTP, the game should end up a pleasant surprise for its players, though based on testing this will also prove somewhat confusing for others.
Cyborg Towers has a setup that is not considered standard, giving us 6x3 reels to spin, and yet there are only 5 active lines inside. On the other hand, you only get three symbols to form combinations with, while a fourth one will reset your progress towards various prizes. Extra prizes of up to 1,000x the stake can be delivered if you climb the right ladders, but it’s not going to be easy getting there, and you might want to claim the Cashpot long before then. Depending on the strategy which is used, the RTP can be OK at 96.14% or impressive at 98.80%.
You get to pick the total amount which will be used, same as everywhere else these days. Several bet values are there for the picking, with a range of $0.10 to $20 used to cover the 5 lines.
The payouts can vary, with the best possible one being the 1,000x jackpot that is delivered on the best ladder. You also get to form winning combinations of up to 6 symbols, using one of three available regular symbols. They all pay the same, up to 10x the stake, and each one has a different ladder on which you’re trying to advance. 200X and 100x are the other two ladder prizes.
According to Merkur, the RTP of this game can be different, depending on the strategy that you’re using. You can collect prizes immediately as you form combinations, or you can try to go for the slot’s jackpots. 96.14% to 98.80% is the range that they mention for the Return to Player.
It’s not a typical slot machine, but nor is it going to introduce any new special features. It doesn’t have wilds, free spins, scatters, none of those. It all relies on the way you form combinations, and the mechanic through which the game area sized Cyborg will reset your progress as you try to climb the towers.
There are three Cyborg Towers that you try to climb on, each one associated with a different regular symbol. As you form combinations with each of those symbols, you climb their towers, and you try to get closer to the jackpots. The top prizes are different in each case, and they range from 100x, to 200x and 1,000x the stake. You need 50 steps to reach the top. If you’re trying to do this, you are not going to collect your winnings before reaching the top, and instead they will be kept in the Cashpot.
Unfortunately, it’s not a guarantee that you will get to the top. The appearance of the Cyborg symbol on the reels will reset the progress, and you lose the money that you’ve collected in the Cashpot. If you’re willing to give up on the extra prizes from the top of the Towers, then you can collect the Cashpot prizes as soon as you form then, and there is no risk for you to lose it. There is an alternative option, to do a Partial Collect.
It does look like a futuristic game, though not one that I’d like to live in. I tend to enjoy science fiction that makes me dream about the future, but here it looks like a battle between humans and cyborgs, and the latter is a naked creature which is trying to keep you away from the riches found in the towers. Not a pleasant prospect.
There are few symbols here, including the Cyborg that takes over all positions on the reels, and the three regular symbols which appear to be a mix of power sources, bracelets and humans with VR headsets on their heads.
Cyborg Towers is an unusual release, a unique slot machine from Merkur that manages to deliver an experience that I haven’t gotten anywhere else. If you want a unique game, then give it a try, but its nerve wrecking jackpot ladder climb is not for everyone.
