Merkur’s Boombastic is a game that’s aimed at all the fun-loving people that enjoy looking at fireworks. The entire game is built on the idea of these explosives, which are manufactured for the sole purpose of offering people visual pleasure. Explosions are cool, fireworks are even better when done right, and a slot machine using these for inspiration should be loads of fun as well, or at least that’s the idea.
For the game, we’re looking at a setup which involves only 10 lines for the 5 reels which are used. The wild symbols will be present and helpful, but so will the free spins and cascading reels. Top wins of up to $100,000 (5,000x) are possible, and they help make the game a very juicy target for players. Even the 96% RTP is one that I’m happy enough with, though in that one around there was room to do better.
To select a wager that you are comfortable with, you just need to pick the total amount, there is no mention of a line bet. However, you use 10 coins in the bet, with their total value between $0.10 and $20. This gives you a line bet of up to $2 to use, even though you don’t change it directly.
Now, when it comes to prizes, Boombastic does quite well. Its best paying symbol, a regular one, will offer up to 500x total stake on each active line where it forms a full 5 symbol combo. Take all 10 lines into consideration, and you will find that up to 5,000x rewards can be paid (up to $100,000).
Another element to consider, the RTP is set to 96%. It’s the minimum that I find acceptable in a slot machine, but nonetheless, it’s sufficient for a modern release.
Among the few features which are available in Boombastic, you will discover the Slide. This is a feature which works similarly to the Cascading Reels of other slots. Symbols involved in winning combinations are deleted, after you get your prize, and then new ones come in and hopefully create new combinations. The Slide repeats itself for as long as there are new wins formed.
Should three or more Slides occur in a single spin, the game ends up giving you access to free spins. Depending on how many slides you’ve gotten, up to 50 free spins can trigger. Once inside, the same mechanic is used to retrigger the free spins.
As the feature symbols, you will find that there are three versions for the wilds, each one showing a different Fireworks Rocket. The reels 2, 3 and 4 can get these wilds. As substitutes, the wilds are going to help any other symbol form a combination, without exceptions.
Fireworks and explosions are used as inspiration for the slot’s background graphics and symbols. The look is that of a cartoon, a rather crude version of one anyway. Some of the symbols, the rockets acting as wilds, are turned into characters with faces. The other high symbols are various types of fireworks, all of them with fuses attached. As the low value symbols, we get the Royals. As for the background picture, we see the huge clouds forming up as a result of the explosions.
Boombastic looks like quite the interesting slot machine, a game which offers a decent variety of features, big payouts and an acceptable RTP, but only average looking graphics.
