1717 Caribbean Pirates is a casino game that Merkur will be releasing later in 2020, an obviously pirate themed slot machine. It’s taking us to one of the famous stomping grounds of the pirate captains of that era, the Caribbean region, and the time is in the 18th century. I expect a game with a good Return, tropical and pirate themed graphics, and hopefully with some decent prizes as well.
For a game which spins 5x3 reels, having up to 40 active lines is not that bad. Through it, 1717 Caribbean Pirates will deliver wins of up to 2,000x the stake, something that is true even as the long-term RTP will go to 96.14%. Plenty of help will come from its various features, and along the way you may find wilds there, along with scatters, and several variants for the free spins.
For the 40 active lines which the game uses, you can pick the line bet which will go to each one. As that particular option has a range of $0.01 to $2, the full amount with which you get to play each round can be anywhere between $0.40 and $80.
Should the right symbols form winning combinations on all the game’s lines, a jackpot of up to 2,000x the stake could come your way. It’s a pretty good reward for most slot machines, even if the volatility needs to increase somewhat, in order to allow it. Long-term, you want to see a good Return to Player, and the 96.14% we’re seeing mentioned for 1717 Caribbean Pirates does look good enough.
Now that we’re moving on to the game’s major features, we find that the Wild logo is one of the main ones that we should be looking into. Not that elaborate, it’s a simple feature overall, and one that can bring you more winning combinations in the long run. You get to use it as a substitute, a symbol which will replace most symbols, though not the scattered Treasure Maps.
As for those Treasure Maps, they’re as exciting to get as you’d imagine, since with the three pieces of the map there is a special feature that you can trigger. You need all three scatters at the same time though, landing on the middle three columns.
Treasure Quest is the name of the bonus which comes next, where a random island will be chosen for the adventure to begin on. You may get the treasure, or you may not, and if you don’t then the quest for it will continue the next time that you trigger this bonus game. Once found, the treasure quest begins from scratch the next time that you get into this feature. The islands where you’re looking for treasures are:
It’s obviously a pirate themed game, and it involves the Caribbean Islands. Some of the more well known pirate ports of the time are included in its features. As for the main characters shown in the main symbols, they appear to be various famous pirates, both men and women, some with eye patches and others without, but all of them armed in some way. Royals make up the list of low value icons, while the Wild logo is a substitute, and the Map Pieces are the scatters.
On the other hand, as good as any pirate story may be, the graphics need to match the intent. I’m not a big fan of Merkur’s design in this slot machine, it looks crude if compared with the more modern pirate games around.
1717 Caribbean Pirates can be a very good slot machine, provided that you don’t care too much about modern graphics. There are way too many gorgeous titles which have similar stories, but this one does have the advantage of its many types of treasure island features, you don’t get to explore and find out everything it has to offer immediately.
