Wheel of Fortune Megaways Slot Machine Review

IGT is taking advantage of the popularity of the Megaways engine as well, one of the many developers to have acquired this license from BTG over the last year. Wheel of Fortune Megaways is their latest release, a game which is part of a series that has had a couple of titles in it already, a popular one in their collection. It’s not as rewarding as other slots which use the same engine, but let’s see if the game can make up for that big shortcoming.

Wheel of Fortune Megaways has the same set of 6 reels as the rest of the games using this engine, and it can have up to 117,649 Megaways in total, which is also standard (but it can go higher during free spins, up to 1 million ways). It doesn’t seem to use them quite as effectively as other slots though, since top wins go just a bit over 4,000x the stake, and yet it’s still a game with high volatility. RTP can be as high as 96.46%. It has plenty to offer through its features as well, mainly things like free spins with the Wheel of Fortune, or the Wild Megastacks.

Betting and Prizes

There is a fairly high betting range, of up to $200 per spin, but with a low starting point at $0.20. Every single way to win will be covered by the wager, regardless of its size.

I’m not quite as impressed with the top rewards of this game, as I am with other Megaways slots. Reaching a maximum of about 4,00x the stake, it’s considerably lower than we find in other slots.

At the same time, the game is highly volatile, with an RTP of up to 96.46%. As developer offers an RTP range to IGT online casinos, this can be much lower as well.

Wheel of Fortune Megaways Game Features

Since we’re talking about a Megaways engine, let’s see how it works first. You’re spinning 6 reels inside, and there will be a random number of symbols selected for each column. Anywhere from 2 to 7 symbols are placed in each case, and depending on the exact configuration, you can end up with up to 117,649 ways to win, or Megaways.

Wilds will be present in the game, and they’re fine in their usual role, as substitutes. There is something extra that they can do for you though. A random feature, will see up to three wilds turn into Wild Megastacks. This adds wilds to all positions of the reel, and gives it 7 such symbols. During free spins, that same feature can turn reels into wilds which are 10-symbols high.

To reach the free games, 3 to 6 scatters are needed, which gets you 12 to 18 free games. First though, there is the Wheel of Fortune, which will spin for you and give you a number of Megaways that you start with.

As we’re used to by now, the free spins have an advantage over the base game. Not only are you getting Wild Megastacks on up to 2 reels, which can give you up to 10 symbols per column, but there are also Expansion symbols added. The latter get replaced by two symbols, which means that it also adds to the size of the reel. As you can have bigger reels here, you could end up with up to 1,000,000 ways to win.

Theme & Design

This entire series is branded, so it’s based on a popular TV game show. You spin the Wheel of Fortune, and you win prizes, and that mechanic is now part of the slot’s features as well. The action takes us to the studio where the show is filmed. We see it in the background, while on the reels we have a mix of related and non-related symbols.

The initial six symbols, of lower value, will show us the Royals, standard ones from 9 to A. Next, we get symbols which include wilds (the assistant), plus private jets, fast cars, speedboats and gold rings.

Conclusion

Wheel of Fortune Megaways doesn’t look that bad, and it even adds a couple of fun new features to a type of slot machine that is quite popular these days. It doesn’t seem to have the same very high top jackpots as the other Megaways slots though, and that’s the one area where I feel that IGT could’ve done better.
