It’s the third slot machine that we’re seeing ELK Studios launch in this series. Taco Brothers Derailed comes after a regular release in 2015, and a Christmas-themed title in the last couple of years. The action of series is placed in Mexico, in 1881, and a couple of mariachis are in the lead roles inside. Captain Diaz is the name of the villain. The graphics have always been great for these slots, so I have high hopes for this release as well.
Taco Brothers Derailed comes up with 6 reels, where there are a total of 466 connecting paylines. We often see slot machines paying up to 10,000x the stake, so the rewards aren’t a surprise here, especially since the medium to high volatility allows for bigger returns. The 95% RTP is a disappointment, one that is true for most new ELK releases. This game also includes features such as Walking Wilds, Walking Multiplier Wilds, and the Taco Train Heist bonus game.
With 100 coins selected every single time, the bets used in Taco Brothers Derailed slot start from $0.20 and may go up to $100.
You get a chance at a prize worth $1,000,000, which would be a 10,000x return on what you put in. That excellent top jackpot is a powerful motivator for plenty of players, but it’s not uncommon in slots that have medium to high volatility.
The RTP has been dropped to 95% for recent ELK slots, and while they’re still playable, we’ve also seen them do much better in the past (used to be 96% in older games).
The wild symbol has a couple of variants, starting with the regular one, shown as a W. It’s a substitute that may be used only in combination with regular symbols.
The Walking Wilds show the three Taco Brothers, and their appearance triggers respins. They move towards the left, and until they leave the game area you will keep getting new symbols in the rest of the positions. All corresponding Taco Brother symbols are also turned into wilds.
You will also get multiplier versions of the Walking Wilds, and those can boost prizes by up to 5x. The regular wilds borrow that multiplier as well.
You can get bonus symbols on reels 2-5, and with 3 or 4 visible, you can gain access to the bonus game or Super Bonus game. There are new symbols here, with Captain Diaz on the 1st reel, and the Senorita on the 6th.
Walking Wilds will appear in all versions on the 6th reel, and they will start moving towards the 1st one. Random Multipliers are applied by them. Having Captain Diaz land on reel 1 will lock in place the Walking Wild which is closest to it. On the other hand, Senorita unlocks a wild that is closest to the 1st reel or even sends it back to the 6th reel.
A Super Bonus mode, if triggered via 4 bonus symbols, will have all three types of wilds present at the start, along with the multiplier wild. Captain Diaz is also wild. Free Spins end once you reach the 1st reel with all Walking Wilds, or if all Taco Brother Wilds are locked.
Taco Brothers Derailed is a Mexico-themed game, set in a small town, in the 19th century. It is a modern design, with the three brothers as its heroes and premium symbols. There are also gold bars, lamps, cow skulls, whistles, and pinatas.
Overall, another excellent release in this series, but you will not get from it the same kind of high RTP that we saw in previous titles of Taco Brothers.
