ELK Studios is preparing to finish 2021 with space and nature-themed slot machines, which will be called Stars of Orion. The idea is a good one, and this developer has a good history when it comes to creating games with great designs and loads of interesting features. I have every confidence that they will do just as well in this case.
We know that it’s going to be a slot with 6x8 reels and a Cluster Pays system, that it can pay up to 10,000x the stake, but with a limited RTP of only 95%. It has a long list of features, including wilds, super symbols, and superclusters, free drops, Magic Meters, and about five different modifiers.
Regardless of how the game area looks like, the bets used in ELK slots will be the same every time, and the reason for that seems to be their use of optional betting strategies. Regardless of whether you want to use those options or not, you can spend $0.20 to $100 per spin, and you will be using 100 coins at all times.
I think you’ll agree, that the potential rewards that are mentioned in Stars of Orion are considered above average. 10,000x the stake is more than enough to satisfy even players that are OK with high volatility titles like this one. What is less appealing, is the 95% Return to Player, a figure that we’ve been seeing in a lot of new ELK Studios games (their older releases had 96% returns).
You’re going to discover a Cluster Pays slot, with dropping symbols, so winning clusters are just the beginning. You need 5+ matching symbols in a cluster, to get paid.
Super symbols form in special blue positions, and they spread the special game area to all symbols in the cluster, if it’s part of a win. All positions are replaced with the highest value symbol, and it can result in the formation of a Super Cluster.
Paying as well as the top symbol, the wild is also useful as a substitute, so it can help create all sorts of winning clusters. It doesn’t help scatters though.
As clusters form and symbols drop, they’re collected in a special Magic Meter, shown on the right. Reaching another level on it, will activate a multiplier or a bonus feature. Up to 64x multipliers can be obtained from this meter.
The magic features that can trigger include:
10 free drops will trigger when 3 scatters land anywhere in view. The difference is that the Meter doesn’t reset between free spins.
With the beautiful stars in the night’s sky, Stars of Orion places the reels in an ancient temple, which looks like something that was built by druids. The reels themselves, with their many symbols, will be supported by tall stone pillars. A beautiful design if you look at the outer area, but the symbols are fairly simple, and not very appealing visually.
As for what those symbols are, some of them are simple gemstone-like icons, colored in blue, purple, red, or green. Others are drawings of various wild animals and birds, on yellow backgrounds. We see wolves, birds, and elks.
It’s a good game, the usual high-end production that ELK Studios always offers, with a long list of features and a unique gameplay style.
