East Asia is the sort of place that most people will want to visit, and present among the more interesting destinations in the region, the country of Nepal is one of those that gets people’s attention. Katmandu Gold is based in the country’s capital and largest city, and it will be a slot machine that ELK Studios is working on, preparing it for release in December 2020. I doubt there are too many games which will show off that particular corner of the world, so if you love to travel, this might be a good way to spend some time.
You’re already starting off with a decent game area, using 6x4 reels & 4096 ways to win, but you can go up from there, expanding reels and eventually getting up to 6x9 reels and as many as 262,144 ways. Thanks to this sort of expansion, and other special features, there are top wins of up to 10,000x which can be won in Katmandu Gold. The slot’s main features are going to include wilds, drops, expanding wins, multipliers, the Ice Climber bonus, and big symbols.
It’s always the same betting system in an Elk Studios release. Starting from $0.20, the wager can go as high as $100. Whatever the value that you’re selecting, there will be 100 coins used in it, with denominations of up to $1.
I think you will agree, that the payouts which are delivered in Katmandu Gold can be quite powerful, with life-changing amounts being possible. 10,000x the stake is the kind of jackpot that riskier slots will deliver though, and it seems true here as well since the volatility is expected to be medium-high. Obviously, there are even riskier slots to play, some of them with lower prizes than this one.
Though it has its share of risk, the game is fair overall, and the RTP is 96.20%.
Forming wins, which is possible with matching symbols appearing on 3 or more reels, left to right, is only the beginning. Avalanches will follow and remove winning symbols while adding more rows of symbols to the top. You can end up with 6x8 reels this way, at which point you’d have 262,144 ways active.
Symbol drops may bring around big symbols, which are going to deliver 2x2, 3x3, or 4x4 positions with matching icons on them.
Wilds are going to be used as replacement symbols, so you can form more winning combinations with their help, but they don’t pay anything directly.
The Expanding Win is a feature that requires that an Arrow appears as part of a symbol first. Next, the symbol in question needs to be part of a winning combo. Additional symbols of that type will appear, in the direction in which the arrow points, which will add to the number and size of the winning combinations being formed.
Ice Climber triggers when you have two symbols with the Yin Yang landing at the same time. The symbols which are on top of it will be transformed, either into wilds or top symbols. Should that happen with the triggering symbols on reel 8, you can get a 9th reel added, and this is the only way to get the game area to that size.
As for the main feature, the free spins are also used in this game, and they are going to be activated if you have anywhere from 3 to 6 scatters visible at the same time. There are 10 to 25 free games to play through then, where an increasing multiplier will go up whenever new scatters appear in view.
It’s part of the Gold series, a popular collection of slots from ELK Studios, all of them relying on the same main character, Kane, which we’re seeing in various locations around the world. He’s an adventurer, in search for treasures, and for this particular game, he’s going to Nepal’s Katmandu.
Symbols that are selected for this game range from the Bonus scatter, to the Wild logo, a Yin Yang scatter, and regulars that show us Kane, Dragons, Tigers, Turtles, four elemental symbols, and four top Royals (J-A).
Katmandu Gold does quite a bit, and it’s an enjoyable real money slot overall, with a fairly long list of exciting features that you can explore. From free spins with multipliers to giant symbols, expanding reels, big rewards and up to 262,144 ways to win, you get it all inside.
