The name might not promise much, but load up the game and you will discover a space and gem-themed slot machine with unique features and high volatility. Joker Gems is an ELK Studios release, which promises to offer a unique experience.
Gameplay-wise, you’re seeing a slot with 5x5 reels that have no lines, just clusters of symbols that pay based on the number of symbols included in them. The jackpot of $50,000 is your highest reward, though a single spin can pay as much as $120,000 if everything goes right. You will find a Light Chaser feature and cluster respins for the slot's major features.
The betting is done via the options that we’ve found in all Elk titles we tried so far. You get the same range that starts at $0.20 and goes up to $100. There are also their betting strategies to choose from if you’re so inclined.
A top prize in the game would be the fixed jackpot, the highest one which is worth $50,000. You get this amount no matter what wager you’re using, though the odds are probably higher for high rollers. Otherwise, the biggest cluster that you form with the right symbols will pay 700x the bet, or up to $70,000. Added together, the game is capable of paying as much as $120,000 in a single round.
We also know from ELK that it’s a high volatility title, an 8 out of 10 according to their own rating. The RTP is a good one, set to 96.3%.
First of all, you should know how the winning combinations get formed in this slot. They’re clusters of matching symbols, which you need to be grouped up in 3 to 16+ positions.
In addition to a prize, a cluster of symbols will do one more thing for you, which is very interesting. It will give you a respin as well. This locks the existing winning symbols in place, and hopefully, more such symbols will appear in the other positions, increasing the size of the cluster and of the win. The feature ends once you get a respin without additional symbols for the cluster.
Light Chaser is the random feature, which you can get at any point in the game. If it activates, it gives you a small cluster of 4-5 icons in a random position, along with the usual respin. A win is guaranteed that way.
The three jackpots which may be won will require certain clusters of symbols to form, using a certain pattern. A 3x3 area in the middle of the screen will give you a $10,000 Bronze jackpot, while the $20,000 Silver jackpot is offered for a cluster that creates a border on all outer positions. The Gold Jackpot triggers a screen filled with a single type of icon.
Theme-wise, it’s as unimpressive as the title would suggest. The icons that were chosen are classic ones, so they give you the Joker, a blue 7, a Bar logo, plus gems colored in red, blue, orange or green. The thing that saves it is the design quality, which is clearly better than in a regular classic.
Joker Gems is not quite the usual slot machine that you might be used to, offering cluster pays, high volatility, and fixed jackpots together.
