Though apparently inspired by Ancient Egypt, Cygnus is no typical slot machine, and so Elk Studios manages to actually bring a breath of fresh air to a category of games which is filled with uninspired titles. With new mechanics, decent graphics and good potential, I think you will agree that Cygnus has a lot to offer players, even to those that wouldn’t typically be interested in a game with an Egyptian theme.
This slot machine will start you out with 6 reels, on which there are 4096 ways to win present, but with the possibility to end up using up to 262,144 ways eventually. Up to 64x multipliers, bonus symbols and free drops, these will be the major features that Cygnus has implemented for you. With their help, it can pay as much as 5,000x total stake, or $500,000, and it does so while keeping the RTP a bit over the average, at 96.10%.
No need to choose the number of lines or the line bet here, you only need to select the total amount which will go into the next round. The smallest bet available is $0.20, while the highest one will reach $100.
The developer has capped the game’s top wins at 5,000x total stake, which is pretty good, though these days we often see much bigger numbers from high volatility slots. With the wagers allowed in this game, a jackpot of $500,000 could theoretically trigger.
The game’s considered high volatility, being at 8 on a scale which goes up to 10. It’s going to do fine long-term, as we can figure out based on the 96.10% RTP that’s announced in its case.
The game starts you off with 6 reels and 4 rows of symbols, using 4096 ways to win. As wins are formed, and avalanches trigger, the symbols will slide from left to right, in a gravity assisted mechanic. The symbols are not all on the same row, they’re more like diagonally placed, so when some of them are removed, others can fall from the neighboring reels to occupy empty positions. The game will also add new rows of symbols, as you form combinations, and eventually you could end up with 8 rows of symbols and as many as 262,144 ways to win active.
One of the regular features involved with this game is the X symbol. This one needs to reach the bottom of the game area, through successive avalanches, and if it does then you get the multiplier to go up. You keep going up on that multiplier pillar, reaching a maximum of 32x.
W logos are the ones acting as replacements, so these are the wild symbols, useful whenever they appear on a reel where you need a combo to form.
The game has a bonus feature as well, with 7 free drops available inside, and you trigger it by getting the bonus symbol to reach the left pillar and touch it.
It’s an Ancient Egypt theme, yes, but the implementation for it is quite unusual. You have those two large pillars to the sides, holding together all the marble-like symbols appearing on the reels. The images shown on those marbles are fairly regular ones, with either gemstones, lucky 7s or images of different animals (birds, cats, camels and more).
Cygnus looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun, as a slot machine with high volatility, but also with good potential and a new way of doing things. I enjoyed the gravity-assisted mechanics and the way Elk implemented them here.
