Book of Sam appears to be a sequel to another popular slot from ELK Studios. The original was called Electric Sam, and it was one of the first few games that this developer launched back in 2014. Sam is making a return in a format that has already proven itself to players over the last years.
5x3 reels are about to spin for you in Book of Sam, and the slot machine will carry a total of 10 fixed lines that combinations can form on. It’s a generous game, with a 10,000x the stake top jackpot being on the line, but this also means that volatility is going to be high. The 94% RTP is disappointing, but it’s typical of ELK Studios lately. For its features, it includes a mixed wild/scatter Book, three types of modifiers, and free spins with expanding symbols.
The game lets you spend $0.20 in order to get the reels going, with the maximum amount allowed being $100.
Book of Sam can be generous, as the 10,000x jackpot proves. Most Book-style slots will pay up to 5,000x, so this is an improvement. There is the usual high volatility that goes along with such a big win.
A major downside of pretty much all the recent ELK Studios slots is that they don’t have an acceptable RTP anymore. 94% is the best these new slots will pay.
Before we get to the more common Book-style features, let’s see what this slot machine adds extra. It has three Troll characters that can form combinations, and whenever they manage it, you will also get a modifier that will improve the round. These are called Electric Treats, and they’re associated with Sam (respins with the Book symbol sticky), Sandra (respins with multipliers), or Maggie (removes symbols in order to allow for a new wave of symbols to drop down).
As for the more common feature, that one would require having three to five Book symbols present. Used both as wilds and scatters, these symbols are common in this type of slot machine. You’re receiving 8 free spins when the requirements are met, and there will be up to 3 expanding wilds chosen from the regulars. These expand on their reels and pay when they’re present on 2-3+ columns, even if they’re not next to each other. They will pay on all lines since they expand. If the feature is retriggered, you get an additional expanding symbol (up to 5 possible).
It looks like Sam and the rest of the trolls are traveling in time back to Ancient Egypt, but in actuality, they’re in Las Vegas. We see the three trolls on the reels, but so are images of the Book, of Bastet, and plenty of Royals. Behind the reels, we see elements of Las Vegas.
If it wasn’t for that very low RTP, the slot machine could’ve been a decent option. I couldn’t recommend any ELK Studios slot these days, not at the current RTP levels.
