It’s happened with several other games already, and we’re seeing it in 88 Fortunes Megaways as well. This is a Megaways version for another slot machine, which in the past was called simply 88 Fortunes. Bally decided to improve it and make it more appealing to current players, by using the Megaways engine which they licensed from Big Time Gaming.
The layout that’s offered is typical for a game in this category, with up to 117,649 Megaways available on 6 reels. While top wins are capped at $250,000, the game has the potential for up to 10,000x rewards. I found that the game’s RTP of 96.26% is at a good level, and I’m fine with the list of features that it offers as well (wild symbols, scatters, free spins, multipliers, Picker feature).
The game gives you a betting range that will allow for as little as $0.08 to be used each round, or as much as $88. Depending on how many gold symbols (higher pays) are available to you, the bets will vary. To have all five gold symbols active, you spend between $0.88 and $88.
A game with up to 117,649 winning combinations will always have excellent potential unless the developer caps the amount that can get paid. In the case of 88 Fortunes Megaways, we’re getting returns of up to 10,000x total stake, with the cash limit being set to $250,000.
The medium to high volatility that’s present in this game, will make it a more appealing choice for players that are OK taking certain risks, as is the case with all Megaways slots actually. RTP being between 96.06% and 96.26%, it’s at a level that most games are shooting for, and it’s fine.
You have 6 reels to play, and for each one there are 2 to 7 symbols available. The number of symbols is decided at random, for each reel. An extra row of 4 symbols is present underneath the middle four reels. At best, the game can offer 117,649 Megaways, if the symbols are maxed out on all reels.
You get regular and gold symbols, with better payouts coming from the latter, but with a higher cost per spin required.
Wilds will show up on the middle four columns, and they are substitutes in all types of regular combinations. These symbols bring you gold coins, which get added to a Coin Pot. A random feature can trigger through it, which allows you to make picks, winning you free spins and up to 6x multipliers.
The other way of getting to the free spins is via scatters (Gong icons) landing 4 to 6 times. You will win 8 to 12 free games. With each new win formed here, the multiplier for the feature goes up by 1x.
Fortunes are mentioned, and that’s exactly what the focus is, in this game with a Chinese theme. We see a collection of Royals first, and those will have lower value, but the game also includes symbols with coins, ingots, turtles, ships and dragons. You use the Fu Bat icon as the wild, while the Gong acts as a scatter. It’s got OK graphics, though nothing to write home about.
88 Fortunes Megaways is a decent new addition in its category, a Chinese-themed game with modern features, which should appeal to players that want to play something with this sort of story/design.
