Those that consider themselves fans of the classic genre, and prefer having as few features as possible in their games, might enjoy what Ainsworth designed with Reel Hot 7s Fruit. The game doesn’t quite manage to impress anyone else though, with its basic features, classic fruit theme and medium volatility, and in the long run most players would likely struggle to remember that it even exists.
Reel Hot 7s Fruit gives you 5x3 reels, placing 20 active lines in that game area. There are top wins of up to 2,000x the stake here, and you can go after those, but long-term we also know that the RTP is quite low, at 94.70%. Volatility is only Medium, so that side could work for plenty of players. As for the big features that are included, you can get wilds or scatters, with free spins and that’s pretty much it.
Selection of the bet is done from a single option, located at the bottom. It’s giving you the total bet to modify as required, and the range available is between $0.40 and $50. This appears to correspond to a line bet of $0.02 to $2.50.
Payouts can be OK, particularly for a slot machine which is advertised as having medium volatility. Up to 100x the stake will be paid for the best combinations available inside, and it’s the wild symbol that can offer that much. Given the 20 lines present, you can figure out the potential for a single spin, which is 2,000x the stake ($100,000).
What the game appears to get wrong, is the RTP, or Return to Player. At 94.70%, it will pay quite a bit less than the typical slot machine, which would be somewhere around 96%.
For the first feature symbol, we’re looking at the Wild Diamond, which you may see on all reels. These symbols are more likely to act as substitutes, since they will do that even with only one of them present on a line. However, there is also a chance that they will create a combo directly, and at that point you can expect for wins of up to 100x the stake on each line. You will not be able to use a wild in the place of a scatter, but that seems typical of most games.
Now, when it comes to scatters, the game has the Gold Star, which it uses on the reels 2, 3 and 4. In addition to a small cash reward, of just 2x the stake, getting the three Gold Stars on the reels will also be the trigger for 5 free spins.
During free spins, you are going to get the Diamond Wild on the 1st and 5th reels, covering them fully. The two wild reels can be of great help, and the regular wilds can still appear on the other reels. Together, it makes it much more likely for regular or wild combinations to form.
About the least exciting thing about Reel Hot 7s Fruit is the classic fruit theme that Ainsworth went with, for its design. The quality is not the issue, the developers have done the best that they could with the theme that they were given.
However, the symbols we find inside are present in so many other slots already, that I find it difficult to get excited about them. First, we have the two feature symbols, with Wild Diamonds and Gold Star scatters. The regular include the Red 7s (3, 2 or 1 Sevens, which can also pay mixed), along with the Orange, Lemon, Grape and Cherries.
Reel Hot 7s Fruit isn’t likely to be a very popular slot machine, and I can’t really recommend you even try it out. While I do like the wild reels that the free spins will bring, and the mix of volatility and top payout looks fine, I can’t get over that very low RTP of 94.70%.
