Dragons and Magic is a new slot release in the fantasy genre, available via Stakelogic, which gives us excellent graphics, along with the right degree of dark magic and battle scarred lands. With fire breathing dragons as main characters, and plenty of wizards and magic on the reels, it’s not the happiest looking game around, but luckily that doesn’t cover the game’s action, only its look.
You have 5x3 reels and 243 ways to win initially, but you can get up to 7,776 ways at certain moments. A game with high volatility, Dragons and Magic can deliver top rewards of 5,000x the stake, and yet it keeps an average RTP of 96.01%. For its features, I’m happy to report that you get both regular and multiplier wilds, several random features, along with free spins which have expanding reels.
A typical betting range for Dragons and Magic, will go from $0.20 to $100. You do have the Super Stake option as well though, doubling the amount spent, and turning the range into $0.40 to $200.
The game can pay very well, up to 5,000x the stake, but at the same time it’s going to keep things on the risky side. You can get considerable wins, particularly with wild multipliers of up to 10x applying in a game with a lot of ways to win, but it will not happen too often, due to the game’s volatility. I did find its RTP, of 96.01%, to be satisfactory.
Depending on your luck, you can get one of the two types of wild symbols to show up and help you. One is the regular Dragon Eye wild, which is only available to be used as a substitute. The other gives you a multiplier of up to 10x as well. There is also a chance that you will get several multiplier wilds to assist, in which case their values are added together, for an even bigger payout. It’s entirely possible to form a combo only with wilds, if you get them on all five reels, and they pay 20x the stake then.
With the Super Stake option on, there are two random bonuses that can trigger, and there is about a 3.1% chance that they will do so. You can get a Dragon Fireball which transforms random symbols into a single other type, or a Mystical Dragon Eye, which delivers wild symbols.
A more regular feature, the free spins come with 10 to 50 rounds, via 3 to 5 Dragon Egg scatters. Expanding reels are available in the middle columns, and you can get up to 7,776 ways to win this way. To get a reel to expand, you need a colored Dragon Egg showing up on one of the middle reels.
Dragons and magic go well together, and it’s not unusual to see a slot machine that features this sort of mix. It’s not a cheerful looking game, and the background reveals a land destroyed by the fire of the dragons, but I enjoyed its design anyway. As symbols, there are mostly relevant symbols, the W wild being an exception, even though it looks like a Dragon Eye. The Dragon Egg is a scatter, while regulars deliver dragons, wizards, rings, a rabbit’s foot, along with four different bottles, each in another color.
I think that Dragons and Magic has what it takes to give the player a fun experience, with high volatility, but also with a decent list of features and big payouts.
