With over a dozen different slot machines dedicated to the game of Monopoly right now, the Scientific Games collection is already impressive. They’re not stopping though, and in Q1 2021 they’re going to be launching yet another slot in the series, called Monopoly Utility Trails. The design I’d expect it to be fairly similar to what was offered in the past, since they’re all based on the same original game, but they’re going with a bigger game area in this case, and the experience will be quite different.

Monopoly Utility Trails offers 8x7 reels, a huge game area, where they’re relying on a Cluster Pays system to deliver its wins. $250,000 is the highest that the game will go, which would mean up to 5,000x the stake. It’s a slot with a good RTP as well, 96.61% being above average. Its list of special features will have wilds and Wild Tracks, a Community Chest, the Water Works Bonus, and the Electric Company bonus, along with various scatters.

Betting and Prizes

Since you’re not using regular lines, it’s only natural for the game area to require a fixed wager, and there are 20 coins in it for this particular slot. You go from $0.20, to as much as $50.

Those wagers will allow for wins of up to $250,000 ultimately, which is where the cap is placed for a lot of slots from Scientific Games. It could potentially mean a return of 5,000x the stake, for someone using the maximum bet. Long-term, the RTP of the game is likely going to be 96.61%, which is very good.

Monopoly Utility Trails Slot Features

You will see a slot machine with a Cluster Pays system in place, which is capable of delivering excellent top prizes, provided that you get 5 to 15+ matching symbols in a group. These touch either horizontally or vertically, so diagonally they don’t connect.

Four different Token-style symbols are going to act as the wilds. These are substitutes for regular symbols, and will not work alongside the bonus symbols to trigger features. As soon as a wild is part of a cluster, it will explode, triggering a cascade mechanic.

Wild Tracks is the name of a feature which triggers when you get two golden wilds present on the same reel or row. You will find that Carriage Wilds appear between the two Locomotive Wilds then, connecting them and giving you a big game area filled with wilds. If the Locomotive Wilds show up and form a square, then all positions in that area will be turned into Carriage wilds.

There are times where bonus symbols are in the way, and at that point they get transformed into new symbols, where they act both as wilds and as bonus symbols.

Community Chest is a feature which can randomly trigger, giving you a 3x3 symbol. It’s going to open, and will deliver a prize worth up to 1,000x the stake, following which it explodes and triggers a cascade.

With a Water Works Tap icon appearing somewhere on the reels, you will collect it in a special meter, which makes it go away from the game area. Once you have 15 of these symbols, their bonus feature will trigger.

Water Works begins with spins which go on until you form an initial cluster(s). The triggering symbols are locked, while the others will be removed through the cascade mechanic. If there are new clusters, or new symbols for the previous ones, then those positions are also locked. Cluster upgrades are possible as well, via special modifiers which may trigger.

Lightbulb symbols will also be collected when they appear, and those will contribute to another feature, called Electric Company. Once again, you need 15 symbols.

Electric Company is a bonus feature which relies on Property Cards, Color Tiles and Chance Cards. You get 3 lives that you can use in this game, and your aim is to get as many Property Cards as possible. You lose a life for each round where no new cards appear. Depending on the number of Property Cards available at the end, you get paid.

Finally, there is the Off The Rails Jackpot as well. This one triggers when you fill the reels with wilds, possible via the Wild Tracks feature, if you have wilds showing up in all four corners of the screen. Another way is through 10 consecutive cascades triggered in a single round. You get paid 20,000 coins by it.

Theme & Design

Obviously, it’s a branded Monopoly slot machine, one which delivers a huge game area. It’s filled with various game tokens (as wilds), images of lightbulbs or water taps (bonus symbols), a community chest, along with symbols with cars, dogs, boats, hats, and gemstones colored in blue, green, yellow or red.

Conclusion

Monopoly Utility Trails looks very good, and I’m especially talking about its special features here. There is plenty going on, and it’s a Cluster Pays title with a huge game area. It’s not hard to believe that some players could achieve those big wins which are mentioned.
