Gems Gone Wild: Power Reels Slot

Coming via Red Tiger and R7, so a collaboration of sorts, Gems Gone Wild: Power Reels is a slot machine which tries to make itself interesting by innovating in certain areas, but unfortunately it doesn’t quite go all the way with this attempt. With a standard gemstone inspired design, and a mix of features that isn’t very long, I for one wasn’t terribly impressed with the end result.

The game area is the one that’s most interesting, since it proposes the standard 30 paylines, on 8x6 reels. Wins of up to 3,000x the stake are adequate for the Medium volatility which has been announced in its case, but the RTP of 95.68% could’ve been better. Several variants of wilds exist, including regular, locked and super versions, but not much else, so the list of features might feel a bit light to some.

Betting and Prizes

Betting doesn’t have to be a chore, and the slots released by Red Tiger tend to prove it. You always get bet values that you can use, without any mention of how much goes to each line. The range for this particular game is between $0.10 and $20.

As for the payouts that could come your way, those aren’t that great if you check out the base game rewards, and especially if you look at the huge size of the reels. On the other hand, the game’s features do help out quite a bit, and in the end we’re promised jackpots of up to 3,000x the stake ($60,000). This is all for a game with Medium volatility, so it strikes a good balance between the size of its jackpots and the amount of risk involved.

Where the game could’ve done quite a bit better, is when the RTP is concerned. At 95.68%, it’s a below average figure, surpassed by many of its competitors.

Gems Gone Wild: Power Reels Slot Features

First of all, a word about how this monster of a slot machine forms its winning combinations. You do get only 30 active lines on its 8x6 reels, and you need 8 symbols of the same type and on the same line to get the most out of it, but there is some good news as well. For example, you can form a combo of 3+ symbols wherever these adjacent icons appear on the same line, so they don’t have to touch one of the sides. The symbols also land stacked, so as long as there are three adjacent stacks somewhere on the reels, you can get several wins triggered at the same time. The value will be quite low though.

The regular wild symbol will be there to help you, but so will the Super Wilds which appear mega-sized (2x2 and 3x3 versions), or the Locked Wilds feature.

Locked Wilds are triggered at random, added by the game on the reels. When additional wilds show up during the next round, the new and old ones are connected and locked, hopefully bringing additional wins.

Theme & Design

It’s not much of a theme, as the gemstone style design is much too common among modern slot machines. The style is modern, and the quality is good, but the various colorful gems are not interesting at all, and there isn’t enough variety on those reels, it all sorts of blends together.

Conclusion

Gems Gone Wild: Power Reels looks like an interesting game at first, but with that huge mass of gems covering its reels, and with only a few features that show up, it doesn’t end up as good as we would’ve hoped.
