Red Rake is preparing to release a brand new game with their new Million Ways system, and this one will be a pirate-themed title, a slot machine called Parrot Bay. With appropriate graphics for the type of treasure hunt that awaits you inside, but also with their unique mechanics, the slot promises to be a fun alternative to the already popular Megaways.
Parrot Bay gives us 6 reels to play on, each one with up to 10 symbols, and it could deliver as many as 1,000,000 ways to win. Top payouts only go to 5,000x the stake. There are plenty of features to explore as well, so you will find a Cannon minigame, scatters, re-spins and free spins with special symbols and multipliers.
$0.20 is the minimum wager which the game allows, while $25 is the maximum one.
Where payouts are concerned, there are both good and not-so-good things to note about Parrot Bay. For one, they have tested the game, and wins of up to 5,000x the stake were recorded, so we know that it’s possible to walk away with a decent prize. As its best combinations pay 50x the stake, you can hit that very unlikely limit with just 100 lines. What’s good is it to offer 1 million ways to win, if you can hit the maximum potential with so few of them?
On the other hand, the RTP that they decided to allow here, is only 95.30%, so below the average.
The way the game works is with a 6-reel system, where you have 10 symbol positions in each column. You typically get fewer symbols than that on each one, so the Million Ways are by no means guaranteed.
When you do form combinations through the ways to win available, you also trigger the Cascading Reels. You will remove winning symbols this way, and others will be brought in, to hopefully deliver additional combinations.
The Cannon minigame can trigger once you meet the requirements, by collecting enough Cannon symbols from the reels. You can see the meter for it, on the left side of the game area. In this feature, you will be firing cannons and revealing symbols from the reels, which in turn brings you wins.
Via Cascading Reels, when you manage to trigger them 5 times in a row, and in a single spin, you can get the free spins as a reward.
As the free spins begin, the game will select a special symbol at random.
Multipliers are also collected as you go along, from special symbols, and they can lead to some impressive wins.
Expect a game with a pirate theme, and with fairly common graphics for the genre. I didn’t find the design quality to be all that convincing, there are other pirate slots which do it a lot better. The symbols start off with the Royals, and then there are also Coins, Treasure Chests, Rum Bottles, Pistols, Parrots and Pirates.
Parrot Bay has that Million Ways system as an advantage, but despite its promise, I didn’t find this to be a great slot machine. Offering fairly low rewards for a highly volatile game, with below average RTP and dated graphics, it’s just going to have too many competitors which do all those things better.
