La Rouge Slot
For movie fans that enjoy the film noir style, and especially for those that loved the type of look that Sin City (the movie) brought, Old Skool Studios released La Rouge a couple of years ago. It’s the type of slot machine that you’d imagine coming out with that particular movie in mind, all black and white, but with plenty of modern and exciting features that you can use to your advantage.
La Rouge features 5x3 reels and offers 20 active paylines. This game has a mix of features which include wilds that land stacked, scatters, free spins, up to 10x multipliers, plenty of good options that will turn a spin into something special. Payouts will go up to 1,000x on their own, and even higher with the help of multipliers, but ultimately you’re looking at a lower RTP than you’d probably like, of 95.03%.
Betting and Prizes
The wager selection is done by clicking on the right button several times, until an appropriate value is reached. It’s not difficult, and it just requires that you pick an amount that works for you. The smallest wager is $0.20, while the highest is $10.
Now, when it comes to the rewards that can come your way, watch out for the wild symbol, because one of its own combinations can pay up to 1,000 coins. The regular symbols will pay 500 coins in the best case scenario. It doesn’t stop there though, and for the duration of the free spins there will be multipliers of up to 10x applied to wins, so the potential certainly seems to be higher.
RTP being at 95.03%, I wouldn’t call myself satisfied with the return of this game. The average seems to be somewhere around 96%, so this slot is under that line.
La Rouge Slot Features
The blonde woman is the one relied upon to act as the wild element, a substitute that will replace any regular symbol when forming a new combo is a possibility. It’s also paying directly, if it lands up to five times on the same line, and its payouts will go up to 1,000 coins.
You also have the option of triggering free spins, with 3, 4 or 5 Detective scatters bringing you 8, 12 or even 20 free games. Before the feature can start, there is a small mini game, where a multiplier of up to 10x will be selected. Stacked wilds will now appear on the reels.
The final piece of the puzzle that is the feature system, the bonus game will rely on the Bonus Clapper icon, which needs to land on the 1st, 3rd and 5th reels. The feature is called Starlite Bonus and it has up to 5 levels that you can get through. Prizes get better, as you pick items and you either get paid, or you advance to another level.
Theme & Design
It’s the sort of movie themed game that you’d expect if you imagined something that was based on Sin City. The film noir element is there, and everything is in black and white, but with red accents in all the right places (black and white woman, but with red lips, etc). As feature icons, you have the blonde woman, the detective and a bonus clapper. The rest include the rotary phone, flowers, microphone, vinyl disk and the four card suit icons.
La Rouge looks like no other slot machine out there, can pay well enough, but I’m not satisfied with the RTP level of this game. For movie fans, it’s a good pick, despite the slightly below average return.
