NetEnt’s Happy Panda is the developer’s attempt at targeting players from Asian countries, and from China in particular. It’s got a theme which is inspired by the wildlife of that region, it’s as beautifully designed as any other NetEnt game, and it has several fixed and progressive jackpots to give away.
In a game which has 5x3 reels, there are also 20 fixed lines that you can use, to try and get paid. Besides the progressive jackpot, shown at the top, there are also two smaller fixed jackpots that can trigger, along with regular winning combinations. The slot’s own rewards will go up to 80,000x bet, this being a High volatility slot. Among its better features, the slot includes double wilds, re-spins and free spins.
The wagers which are placed in Happy Panda need to take into account the presence of the slot’s 20 fixed lines, and to each one it will send 1 or more coins, with values starting at $0.01. The Panda Bear, shown here as he’s eating some bamboo, is your basic wild symbol, which you can use in the formation of various new combinations. It’s capable of appearing stacked as well, which should make it a lot easier to get paid, when it does trigger. Even better, a Wild Nudge is also possible, so the stack can become fully visible on the reel, even when it doesn’t start out that way. As the symbol nudges by one position each round, you get up to three re-spins in the process.
Double Wilds may form when there are two wilds next to each other, and at that point you get the symbol to take over the entire reel.
As for the game’s free spins, you trigger those via some rather simple Free Spins scatters, of which you need a minimum of three present, on just as many reels. Up to 12 free spins may be triggered.
With a focus which seems to be mostly on China, Happy Panda gets a pretty enough design, which places the action in the country’s bamboo forests. The Panda Bear is the main character, but we see a few other creatures, including birds and fish, with flowers landing in some of the other major symbols. The bamboo-made Royals are last on the list, and they’re quite well designed actually.
Happy Panda looks like a casino game that will be fun to play, particularly if you enjoyed NetEnt’s Divine Fortune, a slot machine which is very similar to this one. It’s got pretty enough graphics, but I don’t see it standing out in a major way, not unless you take its payout potential into account.
