Microgaming and Stormcraft Studios have announced a new slot machine that the smaller developer has created for the giant, as an exclusive and a sequel to another old game of theirs. Wild Catch is that slot machine, and it relies on the same name as another Microgaming release, without having much in common otherwise.
Wild Catch will give you 50 active lines on its 5x5 reels, which is actually not a lot. It’s a game with High volatility, excellent rewards of up to 9,000x the stake, all while making sure that the Return to Player is good enough, at 96.30%. I liked the features especially in this one, as the game offers Splashing Wilds, Free Spins with Trail Multipliers of up to 25x, as well as Growing Wilds and fixed jackpots.
Betting and Prizes
50 lines will be active in exchange for a bet as low as $0.20 per spin, with the possibility to get up to $20 with it. With 20 coins in use, the line bet goes from $0.01 to $1.
When you’re looking at a game which has High volatility, the payouts are always expected to be at a superior level, and Wild Catch doesn’t disappoint. It does take the free spins and their Multiplier Trail of up to 25x, in order to get to that level, but the slot is certainly capable of paying up to 9,000x the stake, which is what the developer promises. A Wild Jackpot, of up to 2,000x the stake, is also mentioned, as a fixed payout that you can get during the free spins, by collecting wilds.
96.30% is the RTP that’s mentioned for Wild Catch, and it’s an acceptable level for any modern slot machine.
Wild Catch Slot Features
Wilds are often the first symbols that you see in a slot machine, common and easy to use, the workhorse of the industry and a constant supplier of smaller or bigger wins. In addition to the fact that it is a contributor as a substitute, in this game they’ve also made it possible for a special feature to trigger, and to make it a guaranteed win.
The Splashing Wild is a random event, which can trigger in order to give you three wild reels, in the middle of the game area. This results in a winning spin of excellent value, since you get wins on all 50 lines at the same time. It doesn’t happen very often, but it’s estimated that 1 in 122 rounds will get it, on average.
As for the free spins, there are actually three versions available. You get the first one, Crystal Lake (15 spins and up to 10x Multiplier Trail), when you trigger the free spins initially, but once you do this 5 times, you unlock the second one, Emerald Creek (10 spins and up to 15x Multiplier Trail). Once the free spins have triggered 10 times, you get the third and final version, which includes 5 rounds, up to 25x multipliers and the highest volatility.
All free spins come with a Rolling Reels mechanic, and with an extra feature called Growing Wilds, which has the stacked wilds increasing in size, with up to 3 symbols per spin. As you collect wilds, the odds of a fixed jackpot triggering increase.
Theme & Design
Fishing themed slot machines tend to be fun when done right, and I do like what I’m seeing here. Wild Catch delivers a gorgeous background image, of a mountain lake, while on the reels you see fly fishing related icons. There are a couple where men and women are shown fishing or showing off their catch, others with lures or bait, and then there are the feature symbols with logos as well.
Wild Catch is excellent for a fan of nature, especially if he doesn’t mind a bit of volatility in his slots.
