Microgaming has started paying attention to its progressive jackpot once again in 2020, and they’re working extra hard on the WowPot, which resets at a minimum value of 2 million GBP. Their latest online slot in this series is called Sherlock and Moriarty, a 19th century detective story which has been told countless times already. It’s thanks to Just For The Win that we’re getting the fun mechanics and interesting graphics of this one, as the smaller studio designed the game to be an exclusive title on Microgaming’s network.
Sherlock and Moriarty is not the type of game to impress with its own rewards, as those only go up to 200x the stake during paid spins, but there are four progressive jackpots as well included, and at least one of them has the potential to turn you into a millionaire. This 5 reel slot machine gets you 20 lines to place the wager on, but long-term it doesn’t do very well if we go by its RTP (92.10%). Still, you’re going to encounter bonus games, scatters, wilds, free spins with multipliers or sticky wilds, and overall it’s a good experience.
You’re the one deciding how much each game is going to cost you. $0.10 is the minimum allowed, but it goes very high from there, even up to $100 per spin.
Look for the Sherlock Holmes symbols, if you want to get the most out of the regular winning combinations. It can pay 10x the stake on each line, so up to 200x the stake ($20,000) per spin. It gets a little bit better during free spins, as multipliers can go up there, but the potential remains low for a slot machine with medium volatility.
I think you will find the four progressive jackpots from the WowPot network to be much more interesting. It’s the WowPot that you’re after, since it resets at 2 million GBP and goes up from there. The other three jackpots are called Major (50,000+ GBP), Minor (100+ GBP) and Mini (10+ GBP).
As with most progressive jackpot slots, the RTP is quite low, only 92.10%, though there are some which do better there.
There will be a wild symbol included with Sherlock and Moriarty, and it will be useful in the long run, as it takes the role of substitute and it can get you paid smaller prizes. On its own, it pays as much as the top symbol, so 10x the stake per line. The image is that of a Golden Wild logo.
You will also notice Question Mark mystery symbols appearing on the reels, and being turned into a single other type of symbol in all its positions. Provided that you got 5+ such symbols to appear, you get Mystery Respins, and a chance for additional such symbols or wilds to appear. Once you get no more new symbols, the respins stop and you get paid for whatever combinations result.
As for the free spins, those come via Moriarty scatters, appearing 3+ times, and giving you 10 to 18 free spins. In this mode, you can get Mystery symbols to appear, and they will give you either sticky wilds, higher multipliers, or extra free spins.
The feature which gets you the progressive jackpots, the Jackpot Wheel, gets triggered once you collect enough symbols with the magnifying glass, which will be included in some of the premium symbols showing up on reels 2-4. The spin of the wheel decides which of the four jackpots is awarded.
It’s the common story, of Sherlock Holmes, Dr Watson and Moriarty, along with Mrs Hudson and a Policeman. The lower symbols we see inside are going to rely on the Royals (J to A), while a Wild is going to show up as a logo.
Though it’s not a new story, I think you will enjoy JFTW’s implementation. It looks like a modern slot machine, which nonetheless manages to capture the look of 19th century London.
Sherlock and Moriarty looks like a great addition to the WowPot network, a well designed slot machine which adds some decent features to the highly motivating progressive jackpots it gives the player access to. If there was one downside here, it would be the below average RTP, along with the fairly small regular jackpots.
