Forgotten Island Megaways is the second game where Microgaming is going to use the new mechanic, which they’ve just acquired from Big Time Gaming. This particular release is coming via All41 Studios, one of their many independent partners. The story takes place on an island, and the main character is a King Kong like monster, a great ape that’s living in the jungle.

You don’t get a lot of cool new features, but some do exist, including here a random Kong Spin where multipliers start as high as 10x, and this is in addition to the usual Rolling Reels, Free Spins and more. The big prize of this one will only get up to 7,000x the stake, which is one of the areas where the game doesn’t compare favorably with the competition. At its core, the layout is standard, using 6 reels and up to 117,649 Megaways to deliver loads of cool wins.

Betting and Prizes

Standard betting rules apply, so you select the amount for the next spin, and that’s pretty much it. A minimum bet of $0.20 is available, while the maximum one gets to $20 per spin.

Another way to play, is by paying for access to the bonus feature, between 80x and 150x the stake in exchange for 10 free spins with starting multipliers at 2x, 3x/5x or 5x/10x.

With a 7,000x jackpot, Forgotten Island Megaways doesn’t do very well in delivering big rewards, at least if you compare it with other slots that are using the same mechanics. It’s a matter of the math model balancing the rewards differently, since the RTP is still at a more than acceptable level, of 96.25%. Volatility is also high here, though you do get wins quite often, in about 1 out of every 3 spins on average.

Forgotten Island Megaways Slot Features

When you’re forming combinations, using its many potential ways to win, the game will also include Rolling Reels, giving you additional chances to get paid during the same spin. It just removes winning symbols, allowing others to come in those empty positions, the same way it works in every other Megaways title which uses this mechanic.

A horizontal reel is placed at the top of the middle four columns, adding to the ways to win, but also separating the positions where certain feature symbols may land.

Some help, in forming the new wins, will come via Compass Wilds, which you can use in addition to regular symbols. You get these only on the horizontal reel, so they don’t get a chance to have as big of an impact as you might imagine.

One of the best features available inside, the Kong Spin is actually triggered at random. If it comes, it applies a multiplier of 10x, 5x, 3x or 2x, to the current winning spin. The Rolling Reels which follow will have an increasing multiplier, going up by 1x each time, without having an upper limit.

There is one more feature, with 10 to 14 free spins that get triggered when the Kong symbols land scatters on 4 to 6 reels. All wins get multiplied by 2x initially, but each winning round/roll takes it up by 1x. Retriggering the free spins is also a possibility.

Theme & Design

The long lost island that’s mentioned in the game’s title, and then shown in the background image as well, is a cool idea, though not a new one. The main character is a Great Ape, a King Kong inspired creature, which is a companion on the left side of the reels. The idea of adventure is there, and you see it in some of the symbols displayed on the reels, such as the Compass Wild, the Gorilla Skull, Books, Oil Lamps and Grapple Hooks. Lastly, there are Royals as well, going between 9 and A.

I’m a fan of Forgotten Island Megaways and of Microgaming’s new collection of high volatility slots, something that a lot of players wanted. At the same time, while the free spins can be impressive with their 10x starting multiplier, I’m not that happy about the low 7,000x jackpot that’s mentioned.
