One of Microgaming’s branded slot machines, and a title that’s much more likely to attract a younger audience, deadmau5 is inspired by a DJ from Canada. Well known around the world, he does techno music for the most part, among other things. Sporting a headgear which reminds the listener of a mouse, he’s easily recognized, and you get that same impression from this slot machine.
Deadmau5 delivers 5x3 reels, using 243 ways to win and forming combinations there. Wins of up to 2,100x the stake are on the line, which is actually not that impressive, particularly for a slot machine which has high volatility. A 95.22% RTP is apparently expected inside, and that would explain the relatively low rewards that the game can deliver. Several features were introduced, and they do have some potential, especially as the Rolling Reels are there, along with free spins, multipliers of up to 10x, or wild reels.
Setting up the wager only requires that you decide on the amount which will go into the next spin. The game gives you bets ranging from $0.20 to $100, and you have to select one of the predetermined values which are listed.
In deadmau5, the rewards can be decent, but not great, even in a best case scenario. A top jackpot worth about 2,100x the stake is on the line, which should be enough to get some people interested typically. However, it’s coupled with high volatility, and it would’ve been a lot better if it was a medium, considering the potential.
I’ve found the explanation for that, in the game’s RTP, of 95.22%. It’s below the average right now, and it is low enough that I wouldn’t actually recommend the slot machine because of it.
Creating winning combinations comes with more than one reward. Besides the prize that will typically come with a new combo, the game also incorporates the Rolling Reels mechanic, removing the symbols which brought you the prize. Next, it allows new symbols to land in those positions, and that could get you more wins. It’s a common enough feature, for a Microgaming slot machine.
You can get the game’s logo to show up on the reels 2, 3 and 4. It’s a wild symbol, which you get to use as a substitute, so you can have it part of regular combinations. It will not be a scatter’s replacement.
Another way to get wilds is through a random feature, called Drop the Wild. It transforms one of the middle reels into a full wild, but at the same time you don’t get the benefit of the Rolling Reels.
It’s during the free spins, that the game appears to reach its full potential. With 3 to 5 scatters showing up in view, the game triggers 15 to 25 free spins. That gets you paid up to 250x the stake as well.
The way we’ve seen in quite a few other Microgaming slots, the Multiplier Trail gets incorporated alongside the Rolling Reels, boosting wins along the way, even up to 10x by the time you get to the fifth consecutive roll. The difference here, is that the multiplier will reset from one free spin to the next.
It’s more of an abstract image that you’re getting in the background, with pretty red lights swirling around. The reels get a mix, between the low-paying card suits which have neon-style outlines, and the high paying icons showing you five women dancing to deadmau5’s music. They add a scatter and a game logo wild, as feature triggers. It’s an appropriate design for the theme, but it’s nothing spectacular.
For a fan of deadmau5, the slot machine may work out, especially since the artist’s music is a constant companion along the way. Good enough as far as branded slots go, but when it comes to the features which were implemented, or even the payouts which are possible, there is a lot of room for better. Most of all, it’s the RTP that bugs me, because it tells me that it’s not as fair of a slot machine, compared with the average modern release. The conclusion, is that it could work out for the artist’s fans, but otherwise it’s not recommended.
