Wild West themed games are not exactly rare these days, so you’re not likely to be surprised by the story of the latest slot to come from Iron Dog Studios. Now, when it comes to potential, Western Wilds does very well, and promises to pay as much as 6,000x the stake in a single round. It’s a good return, typical for a high volatility title though, and it could get you paid up to $300,000 (max bet).
Where I’m not as impressed with the game’s returns, is in its long-term prospects. With a 95.80% RTP, Western Wilds is not a particularly profitable slot for its players, though an individual’s own luck will obviously vary.
Whenever a winning combination forms, and this will be possible with matching symbols landing left to right, on 3+ consecutive reels, there will be a Tumbling Reels mechanic triggering next as well. It’s the same as in every other slot we’ve seen, with the symbols involved being removed, allowing a new set to replace them. If this results in new wins, then the tumbles keep coming until that is no longer the case. Winning streaks are quite possible.
Not a symbol that you’d expect to find everywhere, the wild is only going to be present on the middle three columns here. It’s a standard replacement symbol, which will be included in any new combo that’s formed, if it goes through its reel. The image shown is that of a badge and a pair of pistols.
Another wild is going to be the Gold Safe, which has the additional ability to expand and take over one of the middle three columns.
Besides the regular wild symbols, there is another way to get substitutes on the reels, and that’s through TNT symbols. These explode upon landing in view, and then they transform into one of the two types of wilds, with a chance that they will even turn additional symbols (up to 3).
Those same TNT symbols, whenever they explode, will also add to a special meter. You need three explosions in a single spin, tumbles included, to trigger the free spins. There are 8 rounds given inside.

The Western theme is certainly there, you see it in the various characters appearing on the reels, but also in the logo and the background image (buildings in the background, cactus plants and cliffs, along with a TNT meter). Even so, it doesn’t quite look like the typical Wild West inspired title, the kind to offer a dusty old town there. Quality wise, I have nothing to comment, as long as you’re checking out its themed symbols, I’d say you have plenty to be happy about.
Royals make up the list of symbols initially, with icons ranging from 10 to A. The high value icons deliver bandits and gold miners, mine carts, hats and boots. Symbols with a Gold Safe and a Badge with Pistols will serve as wilds.
Western Wilds is a fairly enjoyable slot machine, which keeps you having fun even in the base game, with two types of wilds and tumbling reels contributing to the excitement. There is enough potential as well, but I’m not that happy with the RTP of 95.80%, it could’ve been higher.
