African Sunset 2 slot continues what its predecessor has started, and it once again gets us in the middle of the continent’s safaris. With a focus on the gorgeous wild beasts found in the region, something that a lot of people pay good money to see with their own eyes, the game tends to feature fairly high volatility, but GameArt mentions an appropriate RTP as well, so the low jackpots are not going to be an issue for everyone.
The area that you’re playing on, with 5x3 reels which will spin, has a total of 15 fixed lines. With their help, and the game’s features, rewards can be decent (1,500x the stake), without reaching any impressive heights. It’s an issue if we look at the High volatility that the game appears to have, while the RTP is set to 96.05%. Moving on to its major features, we find the African Tree mixed scatter/wilds, along with free spins where symbol upgrades become available.
You need to cover the game’s lines, so 15 coins is the least you can use each round. This gives you the option to spend only $0.15 per spin, if you’re playing just for fun or with a low budget. On the other hand, wagers of up to $75 are also on the table, where the line bet could get to $5.
Another way to play this game, is by using the Buy Bonus option. It lets you activate the free spins feature directly, paying 100x to 400x the round’s stake, in exchange for 8 to 12 free spins.
The game’s best rewards seem to get up to 1,000x the stake (15 combinations of top symbols, covering all reels). Up to 1,500x the stake is apparently available overall, which is still a very low top payout to offer, for a slot which has High volatility. On the other hand, the game does incorporate an upgrade mechanic which could have a major impact, particularly over the course of the entire free spins feature.
The announced RTP is good enough, at 96.05%, pretty much as expected for a modern release.
The big symbol in African Sunset 2, for which you have to watch out for, is the one that shows you the Scatter logo and the African Tree. Don’t let that logo fool you, this is also the wild symbol, and it will be helpful plenty of times along the way, in forming new combinations with its help.
Of course, if you manage to get them in numbers, meaning 3 or more on just as many reels, the game triggers the free spins as well. You receive 8, 10 or 12 free spins, in exchange for 3, 4 or 5 Tree scatters.
Once the feature gets going, you get to collect scatter wilds as they show up on the reels. For every 5 that you get, the lowest paying icon will be upgraded and turned into an extra wild. There will also be 3 extra free spins added. Each of these upgraded wilds will pay as much as the jackpot symbol (66.66x the stake per full combo).
Since those extra wilds were originally low value symbols, they’re quite easy to get to appear, and the effect on gameplay can be impressive if you get several transformed.
It’s your typical safari themed game, nothing too special about its story or symbol selection, but I did appreciate the quality of the design. The background shows you the park, with elephants and giraffes walking around, and mountains in the distance.
Moving on to the reels, there are spotted Royals visible, six of them from 9 to A, as low value icons. The better ones give us images of the Zebra, Rhino, Giraffe, Lion (top symbol) and African Tree (scatter/wild).
African Sunset 2 is not too bad for a modern slot release, but while I appreciated its features and graphics, I wasn’t a big fan of its fairly low top payouts, of up to 1,000x the stake. Those that have a history with the original, I’m sure will be able to appreciate the sequel as well, it’s not a bad game overall.
