Though unexpected from Evoplay, Exploding Fruits is a slot machine which offers their usual attention to detail, along with several unique features that could only be described as modern, and yet it’s going to also involve classic fruit symbols which appear to take their original form. The design style might remind you of something from decades ago, but there is still plenty to have fun with inside.

It’s the free spins feature, that will hold the most potential in Exploding Fruits. Up to 831x wins have been recorded during testing done by the developer, while the base game has paid at most 79x the stake in a single spin. Clearly, Evoplay is not the type of developer to offer huge wins, but there is also the matter of the game’s volatility, described as a Medium, so the recorded payouts sound a lot more acceptable. As for the Return to Player, the calculations are giving us a 96% that is OK.
Though the reels give you 3x3 symbols, this is not the usual classic. You’re forming combinations via ways to win, and so you need matching symbols on the three columns, to get paid. I like that their positions on those reels doesn’t matter.
A helper for you, will be the Joker Wild, a substitute that can only show up on reel 2. Get matching symbols on the reels 1 and 3, along with a Joker on the 2nd, and a win is guaranteed to form.
The Energy Bars are very important, for the way this game plays. They’re placed to the left and right of the game area, and they fill up, as you form winning combinations. The number of symbols involved matters, as each one that is in the win will be collected in the side meters.
Get to 35 winning symbols collected, and you trigger the free spins. This has to be done within a single paid spin, and it’s possible because the winning symbols explode and allow others to replace them. It’s the Cascading Reels mechanic, also available under all sorts of other names from different developers.
The so-called Galaxy of Free Spins will only give you 3 rounds unfortunately, but they will involve the use of upgraded reels, which now have 4 symbols per column, and a total of 64 ways to win. Besides the usual 3 reels, the game also does something special. It adds two Ultra Jokers, which appear as the 1st and 5th reels, though with only one position available on each one.
You end up with 5 reels this way, and winning combinations can be bigger and more profitable. You also get a 1st reel wild, which is guaranteed to be part of wins that form, making it easier for this to happen as well.
Pretty much everything you’re looking at here, will be special, with the exception of the theme and design. It’s a classic look, so it borrows the symbols of slots that you might’ve seen at land based casinos decades ago. They take a neon-style form though, and they do look good, despite the retro influence.

Exploding Fruits is special in a lot of ways, and overall it’s a game that blends the retro and modern sides brilliantly. I loved the 3-reel design which turns into 5 reels (sort of), the bigger potential of the free spins, but also the way that they get there.
What I wasn’t as big of a fan of, is the size of the top jackpot that’s possible. They could’ve done more with it, particularly since the slot has only medium volatility and the absolute minimum RTP that would classify it as average when it comes to returns.
