Hooked is by no means the first slot machine to use a fishing related theme, but knowing Booming Games, it’s likely to be one of the more interesting such releases. They’ve added the right graphics here, included several exciting features as well, and they appear to have preferred the saltwater approach, with oceans providing us with some of the graphics we see behind the reels.
The type of game they went with gives us 5x3 reels, along with 25 lines. Top wins of up to 1,000x the stake ($500,000) are going to be paid, and at the same time the developer included a fun mix of features ranging from scatters and wilds, to free spins and a Fish On bonus which delivers the slot’s best rewards. RTP is not at a satisfying level unfortunately, only 95% being expected to go back to the players.
Your bets are expected to cover the 25 lines which the game provides, and the options that you choose from will reflect this. With 25 coins part of the bet, the bet values listed go from $0.25 to $500 ($0.01 to $20 per line).
The top prize in Hooked appears to be the one coming via the bonus feature, which they call Fish On. It can deliver rewards of up to 1,000x the stake, which is not a bad return for a game. Another way to get the same amount, 1,000x, is through a screen covered by wild symbols. Each combination will pay up to 40x the stake.
The part that I didn’t like, the Return to Player is expected to end up at 95%, while the typical modern slot machine will go from 96% upwards.
Among several good features that Hooked has implemented, I would start by mentioning the wild symbol, since it’s going to be fairly useful even if it lands only once. It’s a substitute, one that you can combine with any regular symbols of the same type, so that together they can meet the requirements for a win. Their own winning combinations are the highest paying ones of the game.
Fish On is one of the most special things to note about this game’s features. It will change the symbols on the reels, so that only three types of high value fish appear on them. The odds of high value combinations forming are much higher then. Through this feature, you get your shot at the game’s top prize, for which you will need to land 15 lobster symbols on just as many positions around the reels.
Scatters are not to be ignored either, as these symbols can result in up to 15 free spins triggering, in exchange for up to five of them landing at the same time. These spins will also include the Fish On feature, for much better chances of wins of up to 1,000x to be coming your way.
The theme is obvious, as Hooked is a fishing themed slot which takes us to the depths of the ocean. We see those fish and lobsters as major symbols, while the lower value positions end up showing us various artificial lures. Both wilds and scatters are present on the reels, and they’re properly marked with their own logos. It’s a pretty good looking slot machine, but not too over the top.
Hooked looks like a slot machine that would normally be a decent pick, especially for the typical fishing fan. It’s losing precious points when it comes to that below average RTP though, and it might not be enough to convince players. I for one will be skipping this one.
