Today, we’re looking at Book of Tombs, a slot machine scheduled by Booming Games for launch in early 2021. Whether you’re checking out the online slots released for land-based casinos, or those that show up at online casinos first, you’re going to find a decent collection of Book-style games out already. These are often Ancient Egypt themed, and they share similar mechanics, with mixed wild/scatters triggering free spins, where there are special expanding symbols that make covering all lines a possibility. They’re popular, highly volatile, and potentially very rewarding, so players love them.
Not much has changed in Book of Tombs, compared with other games with similar mechanics. The same 10 active lines are present on its 5 reels, and they end up delivering wins of up to 5,504x the stake. RTP is somewhat low, at 95.42%.
Wagers are picked from a range that the developer includes, and in this case, it will be between $0.10 and $75.
I’ve seen payouts of over 5,500x the stake mentioned as possible in Book of Tombs, which is going to give the player a very good incentive to try it out. That being said, it’s fairly standard for a Book-style slot machine, so by itself, it’s not going to convince anyone to give it a shot. Once you add the lower-than-average RTP, of 95.42%, this Booming Games slot doesn’t have enough arguments to make for itself.
As for the features that the game lists, it all starts with a regular Book wild/scatter, a mixed symbol that will be helpful even if it only appears once, in which case it is used as a substitute. However, you can also get its features when it lands scatters, but it needs to be present in 3 to 5 locations on the reels. That gets you up to 200x the stake, along with the free spins.
You receive 8 free spins initially, but the feature is retriggered with the same 3+ Wild/Scatters, and there is no limit on how many times this can happen. As is usually the case, the game picks a random symbol and gives it the ability to expand whenever it appears. Retrigger the feature, and you get additional special symbols, with up to 9 available to get this ability in total.
Booming Games didn’t go very far from the rest of the herd and used the same Ancient Egypt inspiration as the other Book games. A Book is a mixed symbol, both wild and scatter, while the regulars include the top-paying Adventurer, along with Anubis, Pharaoh, Urn, and the low symbols with Royals (five of them, 10 to A).
Book of Tombs looks fine initially, but once you get to check it out, you’re not going to find too many reasons to prefer it over the others. The RTP will be higher in most of the Book slots that it goes against, and some of them have more appealing modifications among their main features.
