Star Clusters Megapays is a sequel for another slot from Big Time Gaming, which was called Star Clusters Megaclusters. The biggest improvement appears to come from the progressive jackpots that are included now, but otherwise, the slot machine looks pretty much the same in many respects. A lower RTP means that you might be better off sticking with the original if you’re not fond of progressive jackpots.
You’re playing with 4x4 reels, and using a Megaclusters system where you’re forming combinations through clusters of matching symbols. Its own wins will reach 27,050x the stake, but there are also four progressive jackpots that should be considered (Mega Jackpot is the best one, worth over $300,000). The RTP is respectable, at 96.7%, but the volatility is high (the previous release was medium-high). There are also major features that should be mentioned, such as Megapays, respins, Reactions, regular and multiplier wilds, along with free spins that have multipliers.
The Stake is selected from the menu included on the right side of the screen. The values available within it go from $0.20 to $20.
Star Clusters Megapays pays a bit better than the previous slot did, and it manages it both through its regular clusters and the progressive jackpots that can trigger. A top prize of 27,050x the stake will be paid if everything goes right on the regular side of the game.
The alternative is an equally impressive progressive jackpot network, which has the Mega Jackpot ($300,000+) at the top. The three smaller ones are the Major ($20,000+), Midi ($1,000+) and Mini ($100+).
One downside of Star Clusters Megapays is that the volatility is high, but that’s to be expected. The RTP, at 96.27%, is high enough to make it a good pick for those that are OK with that additional amount of risk.
Star Clusters Megapays start off with 4x4 reels, where you’re able to form clusters of matching symbols, provided that 5 or more are next to each other. Following the formation of such a cluster, Reactions trigger and remove the winning symbols. The new symbols which drop-down, will be 4x as many. For each symbol removed, you get 4 smaller symbols instead. This makes it much more likely to form new clusters, all during the same initial paid spin. Reactions keep triggering if you get new clusters.
Help will come from regular Star wilds, used as substitutes with which it will be easier to form new clusters.
You can also get Gold Wilds to appear, but only 1 or 2 at the same time. These are multiplier wilds, and their value goes up by 1x whenever they are used in the formation of a new cluster.
If you can get through at least 5 reactions in a single spin, the game offers you 2+ free spins (2 initial ones, and then 1 extra for each reaction beyond the minimum of 5). You start this feature with the multiplier wild value that you accumulated during the triggering spin. The game area now starts from 8x8 symbols, so it should be much easier to form clusters. To get 2 extra spins, you need to take the Gold Wild’s Multiplier to 10x, then to 20x, and so on.
As for the Megapays mechanic, it’s going to trigger at random, as you play the game. It will pick one of the Royal symbols, turning it into a Megapays symbol. If 1+ symbols land, you get a respin out of it. With 4+, you claim one of the jackpots.
Star Clusters Megapays doesn’t go too far in giving the player an interesting experience. The theme of choice is one that’s been overused, and the same symbols seen here were part of other BTG slots in the past. We’re simply getting a mix of 7 gemstones, and symbols that will form the clusters which get you paid. Star Wilds are added as well, but that’s pretty much it.
Star Clusters Megapays is an excellent option if you enjoy Big Time Gaming’s unusual mechanics, and you’d like that extra progressive jackpot that’s included. Otherwise, the first game has a slightly better RTP and lower volatility than this one.
