It’s the type of slot machine to promise both power and riches to its players, and it comes from Betsoft. Book of Darkness slot gives us access to a fantasy world, where we get to pick our fighter before we adventure into the unknown. With mages and warriors among its symbols, and with a Book of Darkness that’s waiting to reveal its power, it certainly sounds like it’s going to be a fun adventure, so we can’t wait to see this one release.
Book of Darkness spins 5x3 reels each round, offering 10 active lines in its game area. A slot with high volatility, it offers a fairly low top payout of 640x the stake, but makes it all right with the help of its 96.48% RTP. It features a high hit frequency rate, and adds features ranging from wild/scatter symbols, to the Clash for Power bonus, or the free spins that can result from it.
The wager is selected from the bottom section, where values offered will range from $0.10 to $40 per spin. As 10 lines are covered, the line bet will get up to $4.
The jackpot in Book of Darkness appears to go only up to 640x the stake, as the developer itself mentions. Given the wagers allowed here, it could be worth $25,600 at most, so the online casino doesn’t have a very high exposure.
The high volatility has also been mentioned by the developer, and it doesn’t sound good, since the top rewards are so low. On the other hand, we also found that the slot’s hit rate is high, with about 38% of all spins being winners in the base game, while this goes up to 45.60% during free spins, and to an incredible 96.78% for Huntress rounds, or 84.55% for Dark Wizard spins. Overall, the RTP is calculated to come in at 96.48%, and most of the appeal comes from the slot’s big features, which will be very difficult to trigger (1 in 471 spins triggers Clash for Power, on average).
If you get a Book of Darkness icon, you’re looking at the game’s wild. You can use it as a replacement symbol, though only when regular symbols need its help, it will not do anything for the Dark Wizard or Huntress feature triggers. It’s also a scatter, since its presence on the reels can lead to free spins and cash prizes, if there are enough of them visible.
The Clash for Power is a feature which requires having 1-2 combinations formed in a straight line on the reels. A Clash will start, and you will have the ability to pick a fighter, between the Huntress and a Dark Wizard.
Provided that your hero won Clash for Power, you will receive 10 free spins, along with an extra option which depends on the hero. Huntress adds a 5x multiplier, while Dark Wizard has 10 extra rounds (20 total) and more expanding symbols).
The slot’s going to offer a fantasy themed design, which means that mages and warriors are present among its top symbols, right alongside icons with magic rings, potions, crystals and the Book itself. On the other hand, as cool as those symbols may look, the lower value ones still get Royals that are nowhere near as fun to look at.
Book of Darkness is an unusual casino game, mostly because of the way its high volatility nature is coupled with relatively low top jackpots. I don’t like the combination, and I don’t feel like a 640x jackpot can be a good motivator, especially considering how difficult it is to get into the slot’s best feature. Otherwise, I did find the high hit frequency fun, it keeps you interested.
