It’s not often that I find myself impressed with a slot machine that relies on Ancient Egypt as inspiration for its theme, but Max Quest: Rise of the Mummy belongs to an almost new genre of casino games. Available via Betsoft, the Max Quest series has taken us to pirate ships, fantasy worlds, the Amazon, and more, so it’s not much of a surprise that we’re getting to the Egyptian pyramids as well. As with the other games from the series, the expectation is for an RPG-style title, with arcade-like graphics and the ability to do quests and fight monsters, which would result in prizes.
Fighting your way through Egypt, you shoot at waves of enemies of all kinds, trying to win a prize of up to 5,000x the stake, all while the RTP is at an excellent 97.50%. There are some extra features/modifiers as well, in the form of special weapons that you need to use at the right time, and overall it gives players a chance to have a lot more fun than in the typical slot machine, even those from Betsoft.
As the game starts, you pick the room that you want to play in, and there are several betting ranges possible there. The overall betting range is between $0.04 and $6. The most expensive room allows for bets of $0.60 to $6.
When everything goes right, Max Quest: Rise of the Mummy could pay up to 5,000x the stake you’ve used, so this would mean $30,000 cash at most.
I think you’re going to love the RTP used inside, it’s much better than what a typical slot will give you. 97.50% is the value mentioned for that RTP.
The reason why it matters how much the bet is worth is that each shot you’re taking at an enemy is going to cost you that amount. The shots you take will always hit the enemy, so it’s not a matter of having the skill of a professional to win. Even if you don’t hit immediately, the shot will ricochet until it finds a target.
Hitting enemies can bring you either prizes or access to special weapons. The enemies range from level 1 to 3, and the number of hit points they have changed accordingly. With more powerful weapons, you take more health, and the prizes get bigger. You can score critical hits, and you can get instant wins, or bonus wins.
There are a lot of different enemies for you to hit. In total, 17 types of enemies are present, starting with the lowest-paying scarabs (five versions), and continuing with different types of locusts, giant scorpions, and mummies (Minions, Shadowguard, Spiritguard, Tahawy Warriors or Commanders, Crimson or Emerald Bataanta, Cursed Brawlers, and finally Horus).
Additionally, Max Quest: Rise of the Mummy also has special enemies, which will appear at random. You can get special prizes and weapons from them.
Legendary Bosses appear at random, and three versions may show up. They’re called Anubis, Osiris, and Ra.
You start the game with a Turret as a weapon, and you can use this one at any point. It can be upgraded up to level 5, but it also costs more to use then.
The Special Weapons range from Mine Launchers (costs 15x the wager) and Plasma Rifles (25x) to Flamethrower (35x), Cryogun (45x), or Artillery Strike (50x).
The Money Wheel can be triggered at random, following a hit on any enemy, and it will spin to pay a prize.
With a lot of smaller enemies, but also with some impressive ones that take the form of special enemies and legendary bosses, the screen always seems to be filled with targets. It’s a location somewhere in Egypt, obviously, with the weapon used is shown at the bottom. I like the overall design, but it doesn’t have much in common with a slot machine.
Max Quest: Rise of the Mummy is another excellent release in this series, of RPG-style casino games that Betsoft is putting out. I’m not sure how much success they have with these games, but they can be fun to play, especially if you’re looking to take a break from regular slots.
