Diamond Hill, a November 2019 release from Tom Horn Gaming, is a game with a fantasy story, taking us to the ancient woodlands of a faraway kingdom. From winning streaks, to big wins and eye-watering wealth, there are a lot of promises being made here, so let’s see how many of them actually come true.
For the 5 reels which are going to be used in Diamond Hill, we’re being promised 36 ways to win. With maximum wins of 200x total stake, the game doesn’t sound like a huge winner, and yet it has a 96% RTP while maintaining a High volatility. Having wilds which will apply up to 9x multipliers to wins, while also triggering respins, can certainly improve one’s impression of this game, as the potential increases significantly.
For a slot machine with 36 ways to win, the wagers are a bit on the high side, requiring 50 coins to be used each round. The smallest bet that you can select is at $0.50, while the highest one has a value of $100.
Tom Horn Gaming announced that the game has a maximum win/exposure of 200x, which is not a big return, particularly for a slot machine. In this particular case, it seems to take the jackpot to a top value of $20,000.
At the same time, they’ve let us know that this will be a game with High volatility, which will have a Return to Player of 96%, so at least we know that long-term the slot will be doing fairly well in sending prizes back to its players.
The list of features offered in Diamond Hill is not a very long one. You’re basically looking at only one feature symbol, a wild which can appear on either reel 1 or 5 (or both). Once it lands there, it automatically transforms into a wild multiplier, with a range of 1x to 9x. Each of these wilds will apply its multiplier to all winning combinations which are formed and which include it.
Another feature that depends on the wild, is the Respin. This one triggers whenever there are combinations which include wilds in them, and they continue until no more new symbols are added to the mix.
It’s going to have a fantasy inspiration, and it’s obvious right away. You’re dealing with an enchanted kingdom here, with woods packed full with various magical ingredients, which will help you out along the way. The design borrows a bit from the color of a diamond, so there is a lot of light blue in the background image.
Moving back to the reels, you find on them a total of 8 different diamonds, one of which will be transformed into a wild multiplier. Colored in light or dark blue, orange, pink, etc, these symbols don’t give us a lot of variety, so that’s one area where I feel that the design suffers.
With high volatility, but relatively low top payouts, and with a theme that has potential in the background, but which is ruined by the mix of symbols on the reels, Diamond Hill is not the best game around. On the other hand, it’s interesting and not a typical release, so I will give it points for that bit of originality.
